I don't mind a film being made of a musical, because while I will see live theatre shows when I can, the musical I want to see might not always be on, or theyre London shows and if they do tour theyre too expensive. I did see Chicago at the theatre after seeing the film because I enjoyed it so much. And I think Mamma Mia had a bit of a surge in ticket sales after the film version, so it can work in the theatre's favour I suppose.
I like the 80s Little Shop Of Horrors because it feels like a theatre show, the shops and buildings are obviously on a soundstage in the UK (A few of the background artists and dancers, Danny John Jules, are in it) and it's an enjoyable watch. The casting is good and it has heart. I just don't see how it can be bettered, so why bother. It's strange because I love a good musical, but i'd much rather watch the 10th anniversary Les Miz than the movie. I like Hugh Jackman and it's a good film (not mentioning Russell Crowe!) but the 10th anniversary version, set on the stage at the Albert Hall with the original Valjean and Marius and my favourite Javert, Philip Quast, is special. But I suppose a film version of the musical hadn't been tried so they went with it. But if they remade it again in 20yrs, i'd wonder why. Just make a different film, or a different musical. There's no reason to remake a movie that already works and isn't that old. I could understand a film from the 20s or 30s, which might not be in the best quality for sound or vision but has a good story so a director decides to remake it, but Clue and Little Shop arent like that, the qualities still there.

I agree, prof. We love Les Mis and our very favourite version is the big Anniversary Concert, with multiples of the main characters from all over the world.

There's a 10th anniversary concert at The Royal Albert Hall with Colm Wilkinson and they have lots of Valjeans from productions around the world. There's also a 25th (?maybe 20th, but I'm thinking 25th) concert but that was at the O2 with Alfie Boe, I can't remember, did they have lots of Valjeans aswell.
