Re Alan's biological father - McColl was dismissed immediately as a possibility by Jimmy, when Rhona told him about the DNA mismatch - "No, it's not Drew. CCRC tested his DNA", he said. (CCRC, I guess, = Criminal Cases Review Commission). It can't be Malone either, surely, since they're describing it as "secondary" DNA? Is Benny Ray a possibility? - otherwise it may have to be someone we haven't seen yet.
Whoever it is may of course not be implicated in Lizzie's murder - especially as they don't know but only presume that the scarf was the murder weapon.

Yes, you're right, she did say that. Why, I wonder? Is it usual for police officers to have their DNA held on file?

Yes it is. In case of contamination of a crime scene. Which of course makes it easier for police officers to get away with it if they do murder someone.

Well, let's hope not many of them do that!

Getting a whole lot entangled, lovely to see Bergen though. Why do criminal suspects on these dramas live in almost inhospitable places! What's with the woman snogging the weird man who just got out of prison, and that was a very big hug the police officer gave that girl. Shetland is a small place though!

I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, who’s doing what to whom and why.

Ok so ... the first dead body was that of a journalist who may have been investigating an oil rig accident and fatality. Then it turns out she was really investigating a far-right group in Bergen, a member of which is the estranged son of the guy who lied about the oil rig accident. Co-incidence?
There's also the release of a guy who was convicted of killing a young girl 23 years ago. He was friends with her older sister who never thought he did it. They are now in a 'relationship' which her teenage daughter hates. The father of which is not around.
Ok so far.
But ... who is the deaf woman who lives on the hill? I have no idea what she has to do with any of it.
And what does it have to do with the woman who has the son called Alan and says she doesn't know who the father is. And the father might be the murderer of the earlier victim.

Yes, daughter Molly doesn't like him because she thinks he's a creep, from the incident when he stood peering at her as she waited at the bus stop - he'd just escaped from being buried alive, but she didn't know that, and of course she also didn't know that it was Lizzie he was imagining at the same bus stop years ago. Sandy the copper was a school friend of Kate & Lizzie and is still friendly with Kate, so would probably know Molly well enough to give her a comforting hug.
Deaf girl Jo was Sally's friend and room-mate, and apparently is in love with Alan, from the way she was fingering his name on the valentine card he sent Sally. She was at the festival with Sally & Alan which is why she's an important witness in the investigation into Sally's murder.

Sally is the second victim, the journalist who may have been investigating the Norwegian far right.
