Crikey! An icthyosaur in the Midlands! It's about as far from the sea as you can get. I didn't know there was a shallow ocean covering it in the Jurassic era. It was fascinating to see wasn't it? As the crow flies I don't really live all that far from Rutland Water. The underlying rock everywhere here is limestone - you can't dig in my garden without bringing more chunks of it up - and the bigger bits are really easy to split in to layers which contain hundreds and hundreds of tiny fossilised shells of sea creatures. We were obviously under the sea here too at one time.

Aah it's finished. It was such a brilliant little programme, full of discoveries and happy people. The kind of programme that never gets an award but should do. It's very educational, covers the UK and is presented in a straight forward easy to understand way.

It is! The Prof is a very good presenter for it as well. We know she knows what she's talking about but she wears her knowledge lightly. And her obvious pleasure in the finds is good to watch.

Watching this again last night, a quick flip from the Pottery to iPlayer and here we were looking at Iron Age pot shards, medieval and civil war pot shards and much more. Just lovely.

I have always been fascinated by archaeology, now that I see that there are 12 episodes that are available on iPlayer, I have something new to add to my list.

Do you remember the Roman mosaic from last year? Wait until you see what else they found!

Well the listing I read was wrong. We got Roman Bath Houses, pilgrim medals, pictish forts, and abandoned Angle sites. I'm saying Angle because the Saxons weren't in Yorkshire at that time.

I would have loved a whole hour on that bath house!
