It does seem to lack the dramatic tension needed for the spooky goings-on to have much of an impact. I didn't spot anything modern this week, unless that was a Future Baby Mrs Nathan heard crying.....
Probably a minority view, but I find Mrs Nathan extremely patronising to the locals.

No, I didn't see anything from the future either and I was watching out for it. I'm a bit surprised more of the locals haven't upped sticks and left, as Charlie's family did. If all these creepy goings-on started when Nathan moved back to the village, why aren't more of the villagers suspicious of him? It's all a bit languid and purposeless at the moment, but it is gorgeous to look at.

Yes, we get it. Something malevolent has been stirred up by Nathan's return. There is conflict between the 'old' and the 'modern'.
At the moment, I can see it going several ways: some secret about Gabriel's death emerges (which fits the pattern of stories so far); someone - probably Mrs Nathan - gets sacrificed to the old ways (I hope not); Nathan has a full-scale mental breakdown (which looks to start next week).
I went to check last night that this really will last 6 episodes. It's not that it's a bad story, but it's so slow.
But just to add, the theme I do like is the 'old' versus 'modern' - so we have the slightly pagan, superstitious village ways giving way to Victorian advances in agriculture, photography, psychology which are then followed by glimpses into the future including a plane, a car and a tablet. That's clever. But it won't sustain a whole series.

I've just watched this week's episode. Haven't got a clue what's going on, but after the death of young Charlie last week, I'm glad that neither Peter or his mother died. It seemed a bit less slow this week. Bad grammar, I know, but that's the best way I can describe it, because it's still slow-ish. I'll have to watch it to the end though. I want to know what it's all about.

I do like the music though - enough to seek out a cd of it if one becomes available.
I think the vocals are too forward with their master/mistress. They might mutter at them behind their backs but to their faces they would surely be tugging forelocks and bobbing the knee? The housekeeper in particular seems to be more like Charlotte's sister than her employee.
I foresee Nathan meeting a 'Wicker Man' end and Charlotte going mad.
Wak-fol-a-diddle....

Do you mean locals, Bidie?

Them too......
Ok, my sil has a theory which I am going to try and post as a **spoiler** because having considered it, I think she may be right.
{Spoiler} There IS no past existence. Nathan is a present day man (maybe a historian) who blames himself for the death of his son. He has had a complete breakdown and imagines he is living a past life. The modern encounters are his present day wife visiting him in a psychiatric hospital. The locals, vicar etc are staff members/family from the present day. She bases this on the film 'Shutter Island'.....and the shower scene from Dallas.

That's not a bad twist!
And yes I know, I usually hate spoilers but as I don't really care about what happens in this cos it's never really engaged me, I was interested to know what she thought.
Better than the other idea.

Oh. Interesting theory. And if it could be carried off well, I'd like it.

I had wondered along the first five words in the spoiler the other night when I was having a ponder. Honestly!!!! I had got no further than that and think your sil may have come up with a good solution!

I would be quite happy with that as a solution. One of the writers DID write Life On Mars.

Oh god, not the Jealous Killer Lesbian trope! Why can't male writers just treat lesbians like they are normal people? No, have to be mad killers.
