Thanks for the heads-up, Bouncy - I am a James Herriot nut, read all his books when I was about 11 and have re-read them so often the covers are falling off. Just - brilliant.

I am struggling to maintain interest in this series and I would love to know if anyone else feels the same. To my mind it seems to have lost some of its spark and I can't quite put my finger on why.Is it because Tristan is absent so we don't get the interaction between him and Siegfried in particular? Siegfried isn't featuring as much as before and he, as played by Samuel West, has always been my favourite character. The ridiculous Carmody is no substitute for Tristan! The stories are a bit banal and some of the bit part acting is very wooden making it seem unrealistic at times. I actually debated whether to bother with it last night which would have been unthinkable for previous series. Maybe it's just me.....š

I havenāt watched this weekās yet but must say there is a Tristan shaped hole in the new series. I have always preferred the supporting cast to the James Herriot actor. I thought the Carmody chap was just awful but maybe he will improve. So I agree it hasnāt been as good but I think it is still worth watching.

No, it's me too. I only watched the first two and didn't bother with the rest.

I hesitate to say this because of the series being based on the Herriot books but, for my taste, we are seeing too much of James and Helen this time around. I don't rate the actor playing James very highly and I have always disliked the way Helen is portrayed. She doesn't look right somehow and is far too chippy, almost passive-aggressive. She should be a warmer character.

I thought last night's episode was a definite improvement on the previous ones in the series, far more in keeping with how it used to be. Even Carmody was better. It had a nice mix of comedy (Siegfried and the driving lessonš) and pathos. I did actually well up a bit towards the end. It's a pity we had to wait until the penultimate episode for it to pick up though and, the way things are shaping, I do wonder if this will be the last series. I hope not.

Well he wasn't away in the war very long. He got very sick and needed emergency surgery and was back in the practice within months.

The Christmas Special was good. I won't go into details though.

There was triple joy for All Creatures Great and Small fans today as Channel 5 announced the double commission of series five and series six - and the return of much-loved actor Callum Woodhouse who will reprise his role as Tristan Farnon.

So glad that Tristan will be back and played by the same actor. I think the last series suffered from his absence.

Didnāt it just. I hope the replacement is discarded and not added to the staff.
