This is airing four nights this week, starting yesterday. It stars Sheridan Smith as a young teacher who leads a rather chaotic lifestyle, and drinking so much she blacks out. She meets a pupil in a club and is later accused of having sex with him, although she has no recollection of this.
I have just watched the first episode and thought it was very good. In one drunken scene in the club they created such a strong atmosphere I felt as if I had had one too many! Sheridan Smith played the part well.

Watching part 2 now. Saw it yesterday too and I agree it's very good.
Thanks for mentioning that it's on again tomorrow and Thursday too. I'd probably have missed it otherwise (only noticed it was on tonight by chance!)

I'm watching it avidly. Sheridan Smith is doing well - as I expected, since I've liked her in just about everything I've seen her in.

Me too. Maxine Peake is another good actress that always appears in watchable stuff.

I agree. Sheridan is excellent. As a point of law can a case be reopened if a person pleads guilty to an offence?

Besides Sheridan this also has another of my favourite actresses, Sharon Rooney.

I don't think the script or the production did justice to an actress as talented as Sheriden and, Sharon Rooney apart, some of the other acting was poor. It always makes me cross when the pivotal character/villain turns out to be someone who is only introduced towards the end as happened here. There was an awful lot of gazing into space and close ups of photos and documents rather than dialogue to set the story and the production seemed quite disjointed at times as though something had been edited out. I do wonder if it was originally 5 or 6 episodes, cut down to fill a 4 night gap in the schedule. I love Sheriden Smith who, as usual, was brilliant which is why I kept watching but think it came across as a poor production when it could have been so much better.

I found it intriguing to start with but I agree the production as a whole was not great. I was particularly disappointed with the finale, with some scenes unnecessarily drawn out, and others glossed over which should have been expanded. The resolution was not as I would have liked - though perhaps that was the point, that in real life things don't end up neatly. Apparently this was not based on any specific real case, but there was much research into similar ones.
More Sheridan next week, in 'No Return' (ITV Monday), this time playing a mother whose son is arrested for something he claims not to have done.

It completely fizzled out for me. If someone set me up as a sex offender I think it highly unlikely I would reassure them that I would not take it further! I also found it hard to believe she had no recollection of reporting a teacher for an inappropriate relationship, especially as she was being accused of the same thing. That isn’t the sort of report you would make lightly for goodness sake, and must hopefully be so rare it would surely stick in your mind. Or did she forget everything when she had these blackouts? I thought Kyle must be Arnold’s grandson but it seems not. And I was very disappointed in Pauline and her soulmate ramble!

I found the whole business of Arnold Cleary very odd. It was never clear to me why Jenna was asking questions about him and when she went back to her previous school (didn't you want to smack that horrible deputy head?) I got the distinct impression that she didn't recognise his name and she actually said she didn't know the story of what he did and the consequences. Next thing, we see her tracking down the girl and it transpires it was Jenna who had reported him in the first place. It didn't make sense and was one of the things that made me wonder if it had been severely and badly edited. It seemed to start so well on Monday too!

Disappointing end. Not sure how Brian got a hold over Kyle. The mother seemed to know who he was but it wasn't made clear if their was a relationship. Was she the daughter he referred too? Should have been explained. And did he kill himself or was it an accident. Why would he? It felt as though a whole episode was missing and no real attempt made to bridge it.

I have no answers to any of the questions you all raise, and can only add that as soon the two of them met on the busy main road backdrop (clearly a green screen effort), I knew he would end up under a lorry.

Trouble is Miranda, the first two episodes really were very good, especially the ending of the second one. With hindsight, perhaps, we could have been introduced to some of the characters that appeared later, a bit earlier in the series - maybe it wouldn't have felt so disconnected
