Did anyone catch this? It’s a new cop show on Monday nights, following probationers in Northern Ireland.
Ive only just started watching and the first action is a car chase where the offender dives through a hedge and ends up trapped upside down in a field. They approach, and the lead officer laughs when he sees who it is, then asks if he has a head injury… as if he would know necessarily! He then cuts the chap out, they arrest him and take him in. At no point did they call for an ambulance or paramedic. That’s a bit odd isn’t it?

I watched ep 1 (in advance - series was on iPlayer before broadcast) and am in two minds whether to continue. You wonder how the PSNI manages to retain any recruits at all, if the treatment they're shown receiving both from the public and inside the force is truly representative.
I agree about the early car chase and crash. They should surely have called for an ambulance, and might have mentioned it when they radioed in to cancel the back-up they'd requested!

I agree about the retention of recruits! As I was watching their reception from the crowd at that woman’s house, I said out loud “My God who would want to be in the PSNI?!”.

So did I. What a vile environment to work in.

I didn't see this - not on my radar, I will probably watch on the iplayer when I have the chance. I did notice that Siân Brooke is one of the recruits - change of career, apparently her character used to be a social worker. From one horrible job to another! She was fabulous in Sherlock as Sherlock and Mycroft's vengeful sister, and she was also in Good Demons as the mother of the little devil Adam.
The PSNI featured in The Fall, with lovely Stuart Graham as a DCI, which began as a 28-day review of a stalled investigation, though the service wasn't the focus of that series so we didn't get to see its internal workings.

I caught up with the first two episodes last night. I wasn't going to bother but someone recommended it to me and I'm glad they did. I think it is very good.

It's all very monochrome, isn't it? It seems all, well, most of the colour has been squeezed out of it. Then, a blue filter added.
It just looks dull.

I thought everything about it was so good although I grant that it might have been a bit far fetched in places. It made a change from police dramas (which are my favourite form of TV drama) set in London, Manchester or Leeds. I do so hope there will be another series.

I thought it was very good indeed. I am however very annoyed about Gerry! ☹️

I liked this more as it went on, and look forward to the second series.
The actor playing Gerry (Richard Dormer) had a similar police role in the Sky series 'Fortitude' some years back - a Norwegian policeman in that case. Fortitude was a whacky horror story though, quite different from the harsh realism of Blue Lights.

Series 2 starts on BBC1 9.00 pm Mon 15 April, and whole series on iPlayer from that date. So looking forward to this. The first series,I thought, was one of the best things the BBC has put on for a long time. What with this and the second series of Traces which started last Saturday, they are spoiling us!
