Apparently there is to be a new series of this programme. New presenters - Rev Richard Cole and Mariella Frostrupp, same judges I think but the format has been 'tweaked ' the public will have a vote but the judges will have the final say. Hopefully it will be better than the last one.

I thought the main problem with the first one was the presenters so maybe the change will be for the better. I quite liked the format.

I spotted this in this week's Radio Times so it's started already. I even put it on my own calendar to make sure I didn't miss it. And then missed it. I know I should've mentioned it but I'm afraid I didn't think to. Sorry.

Sorry (again!). I muddled this programme up with the Portrait Artist of the Year which began on Tuesday this week.

Must admit to preferring Portrait/Landscape Artist of the Year on Sky Arts.

I've just seen a trailer and it looks like different judges as well as different hosts.

Is it a big challenge involving painting or a challenge involving big paintings? If the former I'll give it a miss. I like a big painting.

Did the first series have the two 'tutors'?
I'm quite enjoying it so far.

Hmm, watching it but it's not really grabbing me.

I like that they are throwing in 'how-to' segments.

No tutors in the last series, no more una and her odd outfits. Last years judges are back

I did watch this. I will not be watching again. I could not see any merit in the abstract painting which won the vote. I expect that recognisable representations of subject matter will not be the "in thing". I think that my sister's paintings are superior. We have a history of amateur and professional artists in our family . I have examples of my paternal grandparents' works on the living room walls. My grandfather painted urban scenes of the Middle east and my grandmother painted pictures of birds. One of my grandmother's cousins was the mother of St Ives painter, Bryan Wynter who was an abstract artist. My twin specialises in painting and drawing animals and birds. I fear that I cannot enjoy this now that Daphne has returned.

I quite enjoyed this. As to the winner, I would not have picked it. I like to see something that I recognise. I probably just don't like abstracts.

I really liked the astrophysist guys painting and The accountant who said the painting was gloomy, but I liked it for that reason. I only switched it on for 5ninutes but ended up watching it all.
