I'm just watching this, I didn't see the first episode. OMG that French conceige is so rude! There's a new guy working with him and the experienced French guy is supposed to be showing him the ropes. The new guy answers the phone and takes a message, the French guy then calls the guest back and speaks in French, that's fine the guest is French so alls good, but the new guy says "sorry my French isn't very good was that everything ok or not ok?" And the French guys something like he was speaking with me! Even though the the new guy spoke with the guest first. Arghh! I can't stand people like that! It's almost as if he wants him to fail. No o e can be better than him. The new guy seems lovely but needs to find his feet and get introduced to contacts who'll help with his job like people at theatres and restaurants but I don't think alpha conceige is going to want to help.

The French guy, even won an award, for his rudeness....did like the night supervising cleaner, who seemed to do more than just clean. The bride seemed a bit mad too - and the chef who forgot the rice.....what's that all about.

When the French guy, Francois was showing the new guy around I thought I may have been a bit harsh, but then the new guy said something like "the most of I've seen of South Kensington is the dipolarsaur" and The Francois just said in this snooty way "yes". Lighten up.

I saw about two minutes (a bit of the mad bride and the new conceige), and decided it was gonna annoy me to watch. Spoilt customers and OTT opulence tend to get on my nerves. (I switched over to the benefits fraud prog on BBC1, which was certainly the other end of the scale. I do find the scarcely controlled glee of some of those tracking down offenders a bit much.)

I haven't the second episode yet but quite enjoyed the first. I didn't take to that French guy in that one either! Sounds as if he gets worse.

I missed the first one, Marion, but at one point when the new guy first goes on the desk he asks or says something and The look Francois gives him. He doesn't even say anything it's just a look and right there I thought "you're screwed."
Jazzle, I agree. It's either very rich or very poor. It can be interesting because at least with the hotel show you see the workers as well as the people staying there so I suppose you get both sides, but on the whole it can be depressing. On the one hand you're looking at a life you're unlikely to have unless you win the lottery and on the other 'there but for the grace of God go I'! I'm happier with something like goggle box, and mix of people and not to depressing!lol

The subject matter of this programme is so awful I can't help watching it....if you understand what I mean! The over-pampered guests with WAY too much money and the staff who are paid a pittance to pander to them make my blood boil. In their own way, the staff are as bad as the guests in that the more senior ones seem to treat their juniors like dirt. I suppose, if you have to spend your days kow-towing to people who take it as their absolute right, the only way you can get some feeling of self-worth is to behave like that to those YOU consider to be beneath you. I thank my lucky stars that I never had to earn my living in such an environment....I don't think I would have lasted very long!
By the way, can anyone tell me who the American guy at the end of ep.2 was? He was going on about the perils of being so famous that you are recognised where-ever you go and I didn't have a clue who he was!

Morgan Freeman :-)
I know. It's like Carson treating all the juniors in Downton Abbey like minions. The only bonus to the job seems to be the tips. That one guy was at least thanked when a guest kept changing his mind about which restaurant to eat in on with a $200 tip. But the way some expect the staff to grovel is, urgh, it is fascinating but I don't like it. Two ends of the spectrum.

Thanks prof! I have heard of him and have probably seen photos of him in the past but I'm not a fan of Hollywood or the world of American showbiz in general so didn't recognise him....which, in spite of what he was saying, probably wouldn't go down too well!

I worked at the grosvenor house hotel park lane London (they hold lots of award do's) it used to be frequented by the rat pack and other famous bods. I wasn't customer facing, but the perks there, even for non customer facing staff, included all meals and beverages all day, clothing plus cleaning of said clothing, use of the facilities. Being fed all day saves a substantial amount on you food bill. Having had full breakfast and lunch plus pastries/cakes fruit. You only need a light snack at home.

The girl who left because she was fed up with working nights seemed very good at her job. I would have thought they might have offered her a day job rather than losing her.!

Yes it seemed odd to me that she couldn't get a day job. Also, she didn't have much of a leaving do, did she?? I thought the call about vomit at reception was a ruse to get her there for a leaving card and present!
Loved Paul! I was surprised that FX took him round to all the restaurants and introduced him to the maitres d'. I slightly warmed towards him then. The one person I took against was the Chinese bride who seemed a bit of a diva. She was thrilled that her engagement ring cost him everything he owned. I'd be mortified! (And I thought the dance routine was a mistake.)

(And I thought the dance routine was a mistake.) I thought I had Francois wrong aswell when he was introducing him to his contacts. But then the new guy (Paul?) made the lovely jokey comment about the dinosaur at the Natural History Musuem (and it being the only thing hed seen in South Kensington probably because its so expensive hes not goibg ti be eating or shopping there.) and the look Francois have him was like he'd farted in a lift going to the 100th Floor! So I went off Francois again. Paul became even more lovely when he took his ban for tea, bless him. I agree about the dance. Not a fan of staged wedding dances anyway, seems very 'look at me'! It's your wedding people are already looking, the dance is overkill. Plus it weren't spectacular and I think the dancers either side were hired pros from the way they took a stage bow at the end. Anytime I've seen these wedding dances on tv or whatever it's been friends and family, which is more acceptable because it's getting the people closest to you involved, but as a non dancer and being a bit reserved I wouldn't want to be put in a situation where I had to say "jog on!" Lol

When Francois speaks he always sounds sarcastic. "I wish you the most wonderful afternoon." I'm sure he's being genuine. The documentary crew knew they were on to a winner with him. The bit when he smiled at the child and then a second later the smile was gone was priceless...to be fair I feel his pain. I'm not a big fan of children, cute quiet babies are ok even young kids are ok in small doses but it's when they start running riot...actually it's probably the parents I don't like for not telling them off.
I was thinking are the guests going to get billed for the carpet but they answered it with a yes. They'd spent £200,000. for 2wks!! So £10,000. for new carpets is probably nothing to them. I was shouting at the screen £10,000 for carpets! They having them hand made with gold thread in Italy? Geez. And I thought our carpet was dear!
