Fascinating "talking heads" type documentary covering the end of Hollywood's studio system (where actors were under contract) and the rise of casting directors who were much more free range and discovered most of the stars from the 1960s onwards. Interviews with people like Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Mel Gibson, Jon Voigt, Martin Scorsese, and Woody Allen, plus lots of stories about how conic movies were cast (including audition footage).
The programme mostly focuses on Marion Dougherty and Lynn Stalmaster.
I happened to see this yesterday when I didn't change channel after the Musicares tribute to Neil Young (another excellent programme). Really worth catching up if you're interested in the "workings" of Hollywood.
