The whole episode oozed menace, didn't it? I really felt for the lad who the gun was dumped on. How awful that we have teens growing up in such fear of their peers. Apparently, once the case was solved, the detective in charge was told he was to be demoted. How ungrateful is that? Shocking way to treat a dedicated and talented officer. (He chose to take early retirement instead, at his current rank.) They told him (after the fact) that his promotion had been a temporary promotion, that he would have needed to go through certain procedures to get it made permanent, so they called it reverting to his original rank, rather than demotion. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/revealed-rhys-jones-detective-dave-10296454To my mind, this was an odd decision, and suspicious. He had just succeeded in a high profile case, and had two more significant cases on his plate. If what they are saying is correct, they could have kept him as acting superintendent, and got him through the paperwork to have the rank confirmed. There was nothing in how he handled the case to suggest that he wasn't qualified for the job.

Yes, it seems very odd.

Good third episode, amazing to see how these supposedly hardened and macho young men, realise what life will be like in prison and crumble. They should have thought about that before bullying vulnerable and younger boys than themselves. Shite the lot of them! Aren't they just! I couldn't believe the way the one who doesn't go out (Olsen??) speaks to his mother. I would have been turned out for anything approaching that.

Shite the lot of them! Aren't they just! I couldn't believe the way the one who doesn't go out (Olsen??) speaks to his mother. I would have been turned out for anything approaching that. Oh I remember very well walking across an old railway bridge giving it LARGE to my mother, she turned around smacked me in the mouth and made my lip bleed.Of course I apologised later, you didn't speak to your elders like I had in those days, it wasn't on. Similar event in my kitchen, my eldest son was back chatting me and I gave him both barrels, he raised his hand in temper and I told him if he hit me it would be the last thing he ever did. He walked out and cried and said sorry, I feel sorry for all those kids who never get told off, never know when the boundary has been crossed and end up being bullying thugs, wife beaters and crims. I'm 4ft 10ins tall if I stretch and if I can do it then any mother can do it. Both my boys love there 'mummy' dearly, which is amazing as I don't keep in touch as much as I should, however when we are together we have the biggest laughs about old times, generally meaning we get a bit Brahms and Liszt. Hardly had a moment from them to be honest which would shame me, in fact my mantra to them has always been, if you think your mother wouldn't like what your doing. Don't do it!!!

What a wonderful series this has been, so glad the Jones family might be getting back together again but sad to see how the policeman Dave was treated, you can be brilliant at your job but if your face doesn't 'fit' you'll never be promoted to the top.Disgusting! but then that's life. I mean the Labour Party have been saddled with Corbyn, it works both ways.

Excellent series.
The shot of Rhys at the end reduced us all to gasps and tears.

Same here, Lara. It was a hard watch and I don't know how they got through the trial with the accuseds disrespect throughout. I had a bit of a cry at the end when it showed all the real photos.

It was excellent. Depressing, but excellent. Such an unnecessary act that has caused so much pain and suffering. Thank goodness the jury were able to come to the right conclusion, and that the one who provided the gun got his sentence increased on appeal. How hard it must have been for the nurse to testify, knowing her own son was in the dock, and that she would be "marked" for life within the area in which she lived. That is bravery. And the teen given the gun to hide should be commended too, for standing up and speaking out.
I hope Rhys' family feel their story has been told well and they can find some peace and happiness going forward.

I thought this was excellently done, so incredibly moving. And those scumbags in the dock! My goodness. Everyone played their parts so well, but I also thought one thing it captured really well was the intense feeling of claustrophobia and grief within the home. I'm quite upset now.
