Rahul seemed to be slowly deflating his balloon at one point, rather than popping it.
Thanks Anglo, good for Rahul, glad it wasn't my brain malfunction !

Enjoyed Extra Slice - but the breast milk and strawberry cake? YUK! Some delightfully awful dog cakes and of course, the hedgehogs from hell....

Love a ginger cake but didn't fancy too many of these, I like mine to have some depth and stodge about it. Some of the biscuit flavours sounded awful, I think they must panic and just throw stuff together but I did like the idea of the biscuit chandeliers and with more time I think they would all have done really well at it. I've gone off Dave - is it Dave who was star baker last week. Can't put my finger on it but it's not happening.

Three more handshakes...epic! What’s going on - they are good this year.
Karen and Terry were no brainers really, to go this week....and so it was. Rahul, very close to star baker (150 biscuits) but Kim was a deserved star this week, snow flakes, wow.
Ruby, glasses....nice. Dan start again, never a contender, this week. And Jon or Briony for the chop next week.
Loved the middle east pastry challenge and the ginger cakes but the showstopper chandelier, really!
And what of Prue....was it the ginger.

I agree with Beverley that there’s now a tendency to throw everything at a bake in order to impress the judges and the viewers. I wouldn’t say they needed more time, I’d say they need to adjust their ambitions in line with the demands, because at least half those cakes would be laughed off the stage of a village fete.
For a start, if they have a brief that says a ginger cake with extra flavourings suitable for a family teatime, why are they creating 4 tiers a foot high with a creamy covering? Even if you could keep the cake upright, the cut slice wouldn’t fit on a tea plate. Cue damaged clothing, children’s tears, and only a circulating dog will benefit. Don’t get me started on what happens when your dog eats a shedload of human chocolate.........
I expect I’m being too sensible......oh dear.......what was I thinking? Yes, bring on the 8 ft tall pagodas made of white chocolate ganache, caramel inflated balloons and a surprise fish sauce pond. Marvellous!

I like him the least of all, he seems a bit arrogant to me! My faves are John and Bryony so prepare to say goodbye to one of those next week! It was rather sad when Terry broke down at the end I thought, clearly still full of grief over losing his wife.

I was wondering if one of them had managed to poison Prue! Especially when Paul said he has the constitution of an ox.
And I agree it's all getting too complicated and too fancy now. They are making stuff in the first week that they wouldn't have made until the semi-final in the early series.

Yes too complicated. What about a showstopper that not only looks nice but looks like it tastes nice too. The chandelier idea was ok but you needed a day for it. So why not pair it down and give them a Christmas tree to hang it off or something. Twelve exceptionally gorgeous biscuits decorated anyway they chose hanging from a pretty tree. Like Undertheparapet says bring on the white chocolate pagoda held together with ganache and I will add six pink marzipan elephants and an actual fountain of prosecco - over to you to add the next layer. They are supposed to be home bakers not professional patissiers with days to prepare something. I don't really buy the idea that they only just give them enough time to complete a task - why! Is it so that the TV can film the failures, I can't think of another reason. I would rather they gave them all an extra half hour and it was judged on a finished product and not a cake that might have been great if it had cooled down before the icing went on. That isn't judging their ability to bake at all.

That isn't judging their ability to bake at all. That has been the case, from day one....showing the pain and the glory. If the producers wanted perfect presentation, they would be in a proper kitchen, without the heat of the tent.....I was watching the first series again, last year, had forgot the tent, toured the country, every week. One thing they could add to the tent, special fridges, that are used just to cool food....have seen them on other cooking competitions, they do the job much better than normal fridges.

I don't know if it's me or the show but I can't seem to get caught up in it this year the way I have in the past. For starters I can't take to most of these contestants. They don't seem to gel as a group as in previous years and, to be honest, the only ones who come across as people I would like if I met them are Terry, Briony and Jon. I also think the bakes have got too rarefied ( I'll bet not many people have ever heard of those Middle Eastern pastries) and complicated. And finally, once upon a time a Hollywood Handshake was extremely rare and meant something. Now we've had three during one challenge which makes me think the currency is being devalued. They need to get back to showing really good basic home baking.

I enjoyed the first Spice Week. Could almost smell the ginger cakes although I suspect some got carried away with the flavourings.
The show stopper idea was brilliant and well done Kim-Sue, she is such an artist and seems to be unflappable.
Correct ones left - Terry, a recent widower, was very moving at the end of the show interview. I look forward to see him and Karen on Extra Slice.
Think Prue was nursing a cold during the first day, she sounded hoarse before she ate any of the bakes.

An Extra Slice, SO funny. I enjoy it more than GBBO. The photos of the viewer's bakes are hysterical.

Yet some are SO stunning - the first Llama, the Bake Off tent and that Taj Mahal!
Great programme - Terry and Karen were both wonderful and some of the studio bakes were amazing.
Even the piping hot chilli cake.

I only saw the last half hour of An Extra Slice and I have to say I warmed yo Karen as I never have when she was in the competition. She seemed very warm and so full of good humour...loved her singing As I Was Going to Strawberry Fair with Terry who I have liked from day one. His Eiffel Tower cake was stupendous. If only he had been able to produce it in the tent.... Did he say it had taken him about 7 and a half hours to produce? In that case would he ever have had a chance of finishing it even without the heat?
