This looks like your normal 'teenager double crossing demon and paying for it' film. But it's really not.
It's very good and slightly odd. And if you like unusual stuff, you should watch it.

Hmmm just seen this. It could run to a series, I'd be interested to know what happens. 'L' is intriguing enough to have a series on his own.
I do find demons with American voices irritating somehow. They should be British.

I always think they should be Transylvanian. Or Old Etonian. Either which.

I found the Japanese anime original on Netflix. Unfortunately I can't watch it cos I can't see the subtitles!

Light is written a lot smarter in the original manga series. He'd have to be, though, because the rules of the Deathnote are much stricter in that. There, I'm pretty sure that no-one but the owner of the book could write names for death in it, and it was a pointless change anyway, because Light could, and did, write times of death in advance, so the police couldn't figure out a pattern to his movements from when people didn't die.
It wasn't a bad film, but the anime was better, although Light kind of loses it at the end.

I did think other people being able to write names was odd, it seemed to undermine any point in being 'the Keeper'. Also, taking pages out and them still working seemed odd.
But hey - I'm cool with demons killing people! That's not a bit odd obviously

I enjoyed the live action version of 2006 and its sequel "The Last Name" so was very much looking forward to the new Netflix version. Wasn't disappointed as they always tinker with things a bit, It's not GREAT, but good enough for me to recommend a watch (As I have to my friends) I hope they do a new sequel too.
