I'm thinking of getting a wireless mouse and keyboard. I often plug my laptop into the bedroom TV. It works well apart from when I have to sit up to type. Plus the laptop keyboard is getting worn out and sticky. I often have to double-check certain letters cos they don't depress when I type.
The only problem is a lack of ports on my laptop. Can you use one port for both devices if you buy them as a package?

The Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard I bought as a set years ago did, so I'd imagine you shouldn't have a problem.

Cool. That's the worst thing about this laptop. A lack of USB ports.

Can you use one port for both devices if you buy them as a package? I've tried a few. They all work fine together. The one I'm using at the mo' is a Silver Crest brand from one of the German supermarkets. The only real problem being that the letters wore off the keys in about a year. Easily solved with a set of replacement letters, from a dealer on Amazon - they just stick on top of the original letters.

Cool. That's the worst thing about this laptop. A lack of USB ports. If you use your laptop with a lot of usb devices, you can buy a port extension, giving you usually four additional ports (others with six and even 10) - you just plug it into one of your existing ports. You can get two types. The one draws its power from the laptop. The other comes with a small power supply wall-wart. With a laptop, I'd be inclined to use the type with a power supply. tinyurl.com/zb46ton

Nice one, lp. I shall give those a try. I was thinking about getting a port extension but wasn't sure if they would snafu the laptop. I may just get a four-gang as I don't have that many devices.

That's why I suggested the type with the power supply. They're all safe to use, but sometimes those which just draw their power from the laptop, can be a bit of a strain for it and cause it to behave unpredictably. The type with just four ports is fine, it's all I've ever needed.

Have now brought my new keyboard and mouse. The keyboard is lovely. It's very quiet but it's huge compared to my laptop keyboard. But the best thing is no naffing touchpad! That thing used to drive me nuts, unexpectedly moving the cursor cos my sleeve brushed it.

That thing used to drive me nuts, unexpectedly moving the cursor cos my sleeve brushed it. I have a plug-in mouse for my laptop as I too hate the touchpad. I've still got to remember to disable the touchpad by touching a control otherwise it overrules the mouse and I find I've written a load of rubbish

I have one of those wireless mouses Miranda. The only trouble is the two little runners underneath become scratchy. You can buy special strips to put underneath (for quite a price...obviously!!) I solved the problem by cutting narrow strips of Sellotape....Sorted and free.

I've noticed that! I keep having to clean the bottom of it. Thanks for the tip!

I was disabling it but every time I rebooted the laptop it bloody turned itself back on. Stupid thing. If you disable it when you've switched the computer on via the F keys, it reverts to not disabled when you switch on next time. Go through Control Panel to disable it permanently:- In 7 or later, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound. Under 'Devices and Printers', right click on the picture of the mouse - ignore that it says USB receiver - left click Mouse settings in the new window that opens. On the Touch Pad tab, click change the settings for the touch pad, choose "disable the internal poniting device when a USB mouse is present". Click accept and OK and close everything. (In Vista or before, click Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Mouse.) and do the same as above.
