I never bake pastry. It's a non starter for me. The excema on my hands to begin with plus very warm hands all the time are not conducive to a good pastry.
I wonder if that would wash if I were to compete on Come Dine With Me!

St Delia once admitted to taking a tray of scones out her oven to find them as flat as coasters. Her husband, wandering by, remarked
"I thought you were making scones?" to which he received the reply
"They ARE scones!"

I thought Lee was fab in tonight's show. So funny when he caught the beaters of his electric beater in the flex
(no - don't laugh as my lads did - apparently nobody calls a cable a flex anymore!)
How did he even DO that!!!

It's a worthy cause, but I do wish they'd show someone who survived cancer. Each week I hope and then the ending of the story is that the person has died and I get something in my eye which makes it weep. I wonder if it puts people off donating because they think there's no hope of a cure.

I'm a horror, but I skip through the 'personal stories'. There needs to be a balance of survivors and those who sadly did not make it.
This weeks was the funniest yet (although Alan Carr is on next time....). Lee Mack was hysterical. First 2 challenges he was hopeless - why did no one tell him to blitz the walnuts in the blender? And as for his injuries.....I have always been scared of cheese graters.
LOL at his comment, when praised for his very good lemon drizzle cake
"Well I had the house to myself - my wife was out with Paul - so I thought it was time to get the job done".
The show stopper cakes were all outstanding, imo. Gryff worked so hard on his but gave himself too much to do, chocolate work wise. The bath tub was a work of art, even if the cake was a little dry.

Just watched this episode on the Sunday afternoon repeat. Hysterical! I do love Lee Mack.

Teri Hatcher was almost a professional on this - and so nice and helpful to the other contestants.
Very enjoyable series.

She was really good! She must bake at home a fair bit.

I really enjoyed this. The gloss has been taken away however by the size of the salaries of the judges and presenters. They "apparently" donated part of their fee. Paul Hollywood got £117,000,and Prue £57,000.

Paul Hollywood got £117,000,and Prue £57,000. That's just extrapolated out from what is known about their contract for doing the regular show (which is X / No. of shows, and doesn't really tell the full story). Truth is no-one knows what they are paid for those particular shows or how much they did, or did not, donate to the charity (and, in any case, why should they?). And why should it matter if they were, or were not paid their ordinary rate? Why, when the word 'charity' is added is there an expectation that people not be paid for doing their jobs?

I'd say that seems fair enough to me.

And me too. It is a bit much to ask that people donate £117,000.
My question, if the above is true, is why is Paul getting paid more than twice what Prue is?

He's a man - and I assume head judge, but that still doesn't justify such a huge difference (if true). Obviously his agent is better at negotiating than hers.

To be fair, he is the star, and a big part of what made the programme successful from the start. Pru doesn't really add much IMO; any number of people could do what she does.
