I have no desire to watch it, it would only annoy me. If you choose to believe this guff, that's up to you. I don't. All I see is a small group of sefish people trying to rewrite reality rather than accept that they are unhappy with themselves-and yes, I said "selfish" for a reason. I've been subjected to a lot of this rubbish myself over the last few months from one of my fiancee's siblings, who decided she/he was not a woman but a man, and has basically devastated the lives of their entire family, not least their devoutly Catholic parents who, despite their insistence on clinging to an outdated religion, are basically good people who've been left confused and upset by the whole thing. That person is now in a relationship with someone else who ridiculously "identifies" (whatever that means) as "gender neutral" and expects everyone to refer to him/her as "them" rather than by the more accepted personal pronouns, soething I refuse to do because a) it's stupid and b) it's grammatically nonsensical; as far as I'm concerned, "them" is plural. It's a ridiculous fad, gaining ground because of the indulgence of prurent media hacks looking for a new thing to grab onto, and it's damaging people. That is my opinion, and it is highly unlikely to change, regardless of how much you two insult me.

I think you need to go and calm down and get a reasonable head on you. So I'm blocking you from this thread until you have. I don't want the discussion of this programme dominated by your prejudices.

I would prefer to see Tingramretro unblocked. I don’t agree with his point of view, but I’m uncomfortable with “no-platforming” stances, by and large.
People can always skim over or ignore his posts if they want and we should be able to rely on Miranda and Geoff to monitor any serious hate speech - I don’t think he’s reached that stage yet.
At the moment I’m more uneasy about his feeling that being grammatically correct in your use of terminology is more important than other folk’s dignity.

I understand what you are saying but... there's also the fact that Tony isn't conducive to discussion. He is a history of just continuing with the same rant and getting more personally rude. That's why I blocked him from this thread.
Remember on POV how interesting discussions would get sidetracked into one person's view and everyone else would be arguing in circles with them? That is exactly what I don't want to happen here.
Once the programme has aired, I will revisit it, in consultation with Geoff.

The key change in the last few years, it seems to me, is whether not having a clear view of your own gender is regarded as either a disorder or else a reasonable variation.
Gender is not binary, either psychologically, or hormonally. Sometimes there are misprints at a chromosomal level, which is challenging.
Gender dysphoria (psychological) and intersex presentation (biological) are as old as our species. Until now, at least for the last hundred years, we have mainly chosen to regard an undesired or ambiguous birth gender as abnormal and tried to change it or treat it (reassignment) by surgical or behavioural means. Or just ignore it. Rather as we used to do with homosexuality, (apart from a period of illegality) or even left-handedness (and this latter is not meant as a trivialisation of the issue). At least we’ve stopped treating all these things as a sign of demonic possession.
This is really the next chapter in the story of turning the “pathological” into the “normal variation” and the “shunning” into the “accepting” and it’ll take a bit of time to shake down. Sooner or later, it will and people won’t feel the need to have debates about it.

That to me is more a physical thing whereas with some of the others it’s more a mental thing ? But of course they’re all very young (comparatively, to me, that is 😂)
