My tv is completely useless now as it's not getting a signal at all. I've been outside and can't see anything obvious. But it's going to cost me £50 just to get someone up there to look at it. £50 I haven't got. So I'm having to cast everything and can't record anything at all.

Ariel itself may be ok,but the co-axial cable may be damaged or the connections come loose.
Depending on signal strength, you may find an indoor ariel might be a stop -gap?

I use a plug into the mains and TV portable aerial in my kitchen and it works absolutely fine, I can get all the freeview digital channels. They’re much better than they used to be and hardly take up any space either, it just sits in the corner of the windowsill.

So they are pretty good these days? I tried one about 10 years ago when digital was becoming widespread and they were rubbish.
What's the cost of a good one?

Just checked on the Argos website and seems the average price is £25.99 .... I’ve tried loads in the past for my kitchen but they were rather temperamental but since digital TV came about my latest has worked absolutely fine.

No worries! I'll just have to save up for the good one and use the puter to watch TV.

I got the £25.99 one from Argos a few years back "just in case" and have used it a couple of times. That was before all the Crystal Palace nonsense started mind you (since when I have had to buy a signal booster!). It worked very well although I had to have the antennae fully extended and the dial up to maximum.

Might be worth a try then. Does it have a cable that plugs into the TV?

I have examined the cable and I think it has water in it. Bum. Replacing that is going to cost a fortune.

Might be worth a try then. Does it have a cable that plugs into the TV? The booster/aerial has a mains plus and a second cable that runs to your tv aerial port !

Been reading the Argos customer reviews for this and many others agree with me and say not to be put off by its low price of 11.99 from Argos, currently on offer!
