Hang Ups – the UK adaptation of Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy – will premiere on Channel 4 on Wednesday August 8th at 10pm.
Hang Ups follows Dr. Richard Pitt, a therapist with a chequered professional career, who finds himself at a crossroads in life – a crossroads precipitated by the startling realisation that his life appears to be falling apart at the seams. After the collapse of his previous group therapy practice, Richard is no longer able to conduct the traditional 50-minute sessions most therapists have with their patients. Instead, he’s developed a new form of therapy –weekly quick-fire sessions with his patients which take place online, through a webcam.
The six episode comedy series, which hails from Robert Delamere and Stephen Mangan, is an adaptation of Lisa Kudrow’s web series turned Showtime comedy Web Therapy (which, as it happens, never actually aired in the UK).
Hang Ups stars Stephen Mangan, Richard E. Grant, Jessica Hynes, David Tennant, Katherine Parkinson, Sarah Hadland, Karl Theobald, Celia Imrie, Paul Ritter, Charles Dance, Monica Dolan, Conleth Hill, Lolly Adefope, John Macmillan, Alice Lowe and Harry Lloyd.
Pretty good cast.

I think Graham Norton talked to Mangan about this. The clip was funny.

I've seen some of the Web Therapy episodes and it was pretty good. Because most of the episode is focused on a computer screen, I assume they're pretty quick to film which might be why you can get so many names into it, because theyre not having to commit themselves to weeks or even months for on going series. Also if you don't like a particular actor/character you'll get a new one pretty quickly. That's what I like with Inside No 9, the variety of guest actors, characters and storylines.
I like Mangan so I'll give this a go. Let's hope it's better than Channel 4s recent 'comedy' output!

Well I enjoyed that. There's a good mix of actors and characters (Sarah Hadland stole it for me, she was brilliant) and it looks like in the coming weeks we'll have David Tennant, Conleth Hill, Jessica Hynes and Jo Joyner, to name a few, on screen.
More of this. More of Catastrophe. Less of Stath Sells Flats.

I liked it too! Very good writing and subtle indications of how chaotic his life is. Could get a bit dark in the future.

I have recorded this as it sounds very promising but won't be watching it until some of the backlog is cleared!

I thought it was OK. It didn't make me laugh out loud, but I smiled a couple of times. Chaotic families don't really do it for me as far as humour goes, to be honest. I agree that Sarah Hadland's bit was probably the funniest. I'll try one more next week.

It's a bit different and I enjoyed it. I do enjoy most things Stephen Mangan is involved in.

Well having abandoned Age Before Beauty I tried this and quite liked it. Steven Mangan and the guests get a thumbs up, but oh dear I just hated his family!

I've just caught up with this, and thought it was very good. Made me laugh, and it's packed with familiar faces. A lot better than his ghastly 'Bliss' (Sky One) earlier this year, which I lasted just over 1 episode of.

I've just watched the second one, and it didn't even make me smile this time. I gave it a go, but it's not for me.
