My strict Methodist grandmother also thought that about Halloween, Mal. But she was born around the 1880s and I cannot believe any of her views would hold sway with mothers of primary school children today, 😂😂.

I think it probably was, originally, get your jollies in before All Saints' Day when you have to behave, go to church and read your Bible. As a small child I was taken to see Fantasia, then a new film, and was genuinely frightened by the Night on a Bare Mountain segment. (But then I also cried when Bambi was shot.)
Second podcast episode last night and more self-gratification – not much in depth analysis here! It was interesting though to hear the producer Dave Payne talking through the process of developing George's storyline. And the listeners' versions of the theme tune were great! I think they're onto something there. My guess is there will never be a winner as there are a lot of rabid fans out there who will keep churning them out.

I don’t like the presenter, I’ve decided. I did enjoy hearing Dave Payne but don’t think I’ll continue with the podcast. I’ve got far too much of a backlog to clear!

Fair enough, Marion, one can't listen to/watch everything...
Well, I partook of the second podcast this afternoon, while there was something on Radio 4 which really didn't float my boat ("The Verb", devoted to all things poetic. I don't generally do poetry unless it's comedic, ie Pam Ayres.) And like you, Helen, I think the first one was better, though it was indeed good entertainment hearing the listeners' re-jigged theme tunes! Out of the three for this week, I thought the best was the church organ version; the first one was like "who is this weird woman" Hope they do run and run!

I also took against Emma Freud when she described George as a vulnerable young boy. I doubt Hannah would agree with that description.

I feel one of my rants coming on about how an unhappy childhood is not an excuse to behave like an a-hole in later years....
Well, the Grundys' Apple Day brought warring siblings Emma and Chris back together - so much for him 'never speaking to her again'

... and Brad's visit to the prison was interesting, with George telling him he'd been targeted for officially reporting a theft (ie, 'grassing'). The thought of someone taking a leak in his bed was revolting
Of course, Emma wasn't happy that she didn't receive a visitor's pass... but to George's credit, he appears to be trying to shield his family from the realities of life in the nick - so far.

I’m glad Jolene queried Fallon’s business plan. I can quite understand her opening a no meat, no dairy, only local produce café somewhere, but I cant see a unit in an EV charging station becoming a destination venue. Surely people using it would just want a reasonably cheap drink and a snack. Unless EVs still take hours to charge and you couple that with dinner out! Also, she has been done out of the larger unit? So possibly the premises are too small? Well it’s all going swimmingly!

I think her plans for the food and drink are just plain daft, quite frankly; much too restrictive. Jolene said 'too niche' if I remember rightly. Good point about the length of charging time and customers' possible desire for a main meal as a result... would love to see the prospective menu!

Harrison clearly fed up at having to work full-time again! Poor chap!

Isn't it more that he's fed up doing paperwork? His gaffer thinks he's too volatile to be let out, despite what she says.
Listening to tonight's episode now. What is it with TA and surprise parties? When will they ever get the message that they're not welcome? And Helen, blundering in as usual, forcing Harrison to pretend to be interested when it's clearly the last thing he wants to do.
And Khalil needs a good slap.

It would be fitting if this teen upstart gets a good scratch-and-bite from Hilda, should the temperamental feline be 'lent out' to his family...
I feel like you do about these wretched surprise do's, Helen - cheesy and cringey comes to mind And yes, poor Harrison was practically bulldozed into this one. If I was him, I'd also be rather hacked off about being relegated to admin duties at work when he's used to being a beat copper. And did we hear Lilian make a not-so-veiled threat about leaving Justin because he's not a very kind man??

She did, but she's done that before. She did actually leave him last year and went off to a hotel, but thought better of it. She knows which side her bread is buttered on!
IFRC Kirsty got the rewilding gig because she won Peggy's competition to pitch for an eco-friendly way of spending Peggy's gift of a large sum of money, which went down like a lead balloon with her family. It was never intended to be a hard-nosed business venture and as such I'm not sure how it involves Justin at all. I've lost track of who actually owns the land.
I do like the idea of Hilda getting the better of Khalil!

Blabbing about cases and punching George, iirc. Actually I had forgotten about him being benched. But imagine how he could flip out if he came across some rioter, he seems very volatile in his moods at the moment. Well a bit less so now I suppose as he seems almost perpetually depressed… plot development alert!!! I too hope Hilda takes a chunk out of Khalil. He sounded about 15 years older than Henry when they were chatting, are they supposed to be close in age? It’s like EE casting people in their late 20s as teenagers.

We're unanimous about Khalil and Hilda, then
Yes! that sounds familiar. Looks like Justin's scornful attitude towards Kirsty and Rex is going down like the proverbial balloon, too, judging from the drunken disapproval of his business partner who has finally figured there's more to life than making money...
Marion, you might be right about Harrison and his mental health becoming a storyline in itself - have The Archers not covered depression before? I seem to recall Elizabeth was a sufferer, though don't rely on my memory
