I can understand why the beeb would cut the text service. The amount of money they have to spend is spread too thinly. It'll get worse.
Firstly Sky, and now the many streaming services will bring an end to television as we've known it. It's becoming elitist.
At the moment we're lucky to have so many channels on Freeview. How long will that last?
A major daily newspaper reviewed the 'shows' we should look forward to this year. ALL of them will be streamed. None free-to-air.
It's not about 'choice' anymore. Those of us with just a telly and an aerial are being forgotten.
The prospect of BBC television becoming a subscription service is frightening. I don't think we can trust politicians to protect it.

Compuserve, it's still around isn't it,I still cope with AOLwhich is/ was an off shoot from Compuserve, Curiousbob
So glad I'm still quite satisfied with my TV viewing just using the elderly BBC 1 etc but at last I'm beginning to think of cancelling my weekly RTimes and was glad to bin the double issue, nearly 300 pages and couldn't break the spine,so thick I had to use a large paperclip to hold the pages folded the way I like

On the subject of the Radio Times, I was a regular customer - even though it was more expensive than its rivals.
Once upon a time they'd announce that the price would increase with the next issue. Some time later their strategy changed.
Without warning the price would go up. Inside they'd say "You'll have noticed the price has increased - but you can save money by taking out a subscription".
With that, I selected a rival (costing a fraction of RT) and have stuck with it.
Christmas - I'd treat myself to the double issue RT. This year it came with a 'perfect binding'. But, what on earth were they thinking?!
Between the BBC1 - BBC4 pages for Christmas Day we had the holiday insert. Having a perfect binding I couldn't undo any staples to remove it.
Nice touch, Radio Times(!)
