I agree with bidie about the kids. They broke in! I hope we get a character next week from Health & Safety who explains the extent to which a company is responsible for a workplace not open to the public but broken into by the public because I dont know the legal issues here. Personally I reckon it was all caused by the passer by who saved the ghastly Leona, who persuaded all the others to break in in the first place.
I thought Sarah Lancashire's accent was all over the place. I didn't like her in this as much as I usually do. The domestic violence seemed out of place to me, as did her reaction to it. Comforting him afterwards...
I read some online reviews and they were all glowing.

I've watched now. There seem to be plenty of dodgy Welsh accents around - if you're not going to have a mainly Welsh cast, why not set it somewhere else?
Bottom line is, despite the strong cast (some of whose performances were not, imo, up to their usual standards) I don't like it. Scarcely believable premise, and very unpleasant to watch. I think I'll be baling out.

To be honest I did not find Sarah Lancashire's accent as bad as I expected from the interviews she gave. I was going to rename the show "The Accent" (sorry)
I don't think it should scape goat away from the real problem, poor script. I did not like the Jack Thorne previous offering with SL much either though better than this, And his 'National Treasure' seemed to miss something and become surprisingly dull.

I'm sure I am completely missing the point, but I do not really see the connection between the three pieces which are regarded as a trilogy. I did rather like the first two, but am thinking this will need to improve a lot to justify the praise it has garnered.

I didn't watch National Treasure as it didn't appeal. I quite liked Kiri to start with but became disenchanted by the end - The Accident could go the other way for me I suppose, as I disliked the start quite strongly.

Have this on in the background but it is still pretty dire. Mouthy-cow, I mean Leona, has the most symmetrical facial injuries I have ever seen.
And the oddest little dressing on her head. The sort that would be drawn on a Beano character.
But she can communicate with the police.

And now we have 'an investigative freelancer' claiming that endless cases of accidental death result in no convictions. And that the children were alive after the explosion. It was the collapse that killed them...."and no building should collapse like that"
Never mind the fact that they had no business being there...

I'm so disappointed in this series. I can't find any character I like or can even find empathy with. I don't like Sarah Lancashire's character and I cannot believe she would stand for and allow herself to be abused by her husband - another unlikeable person. I found that scene last week unbelievable when she comforted him after he punched her.
The reason those kids died is because they broke into a building. If they hadn't trespassed they would be alive. If the explosion happened anyway and the building collapsed they still would be alive - simply because they wouldn't have been there.
Not sure i will watch next week.

I am disappointed too Lara. Most of the characters are unpleasant. Polly’s husband is gross. I found the funeral moving though.

I decided to watch the second episode and found it marginally better, as I'm more interested in the aftermath than the event.
It does raise some questions. I was quite surprised when the Adrian Scarborough character reeled off the list of disasters which resulted in no convictions, and not just because it revealed he has an incredible memory for figures! Surprised because we now live in a blaming and suing society, in which there's no such thing as an accident and everything has to be somebody's fault. It's a situation I'm not completely happy with. If safety rules, guidelines and concerns exist but are being ignored that's fair enough, but I believe things will keep happening that only a genius or psychic could foresee.
Obviously we must learn from disasters and take steps to prevent their recurrence, but I guess cost is always going to be a factor in how safe a building can be made. Adrian Scarborough's parting shot to Sarah Lancashire was to look at why the building collapsed, since that's what actually resulted in the deaths. The building wouldn't have collapsed without the blast (presumably!). So is it reasonable to pursue the construction company for producing something which couldn't withstand an explosion in the basement, however unlikely that event may have seemed and however much it would have added to the cost? I don't know, but I'm inclined to think it isn't.
