Woke up just after 4, heard first wicket go, back to sleep, woke again about 7, still only 1 wicket. Not hopeful of more today. At least not enormous number of runs.

There were two interesting things came out in the reporting in the Guardian. Firstly, was the suggestion that Joe Root was channeling Douglas Jardine with their apparent use of the bodyline in bowling, and there was the suggestion from Australian journalists that Australia were batting slowly, to force England to bowl on the second day when the weather gets very hot, days 3 to 5 are expected to be much cooler.
