We went to this yesterday at Richmond but I think it may be almost at the end of a very long tour which was disrupted by covid.
This is based on a Peter James novel in the Roy Grace series, which I have read but can barely remember. It stars Adam Woodyatt, in his sabbatical from Ian Beale in EE, and his wife is played by Laurie Brett, previously Jane Beale. The show was hit by covid again yesterday and they had to re-jig the roles, leading to our Roy Grace having to read the script!!!!! He carried his case folder everywhere, even on an armed raid!😂. But we were very supportive and he got a big cheer. Actually, he wasn’t the worst thing in it, that was Laurie Brett who didn’t have much oomph and rather deflated some of the tension. Adam Woodyatt played his part quite well I thought despite not really shaking off Ian Beale (but then the last lead I saw on stage was Anton du Beke who simply played Anton du Beke) but he was very clear which gets any actor a plus point. Actually it was only Laurie Brett I had trouble hearing at a few points. Previously this role had been taken by Gaynor Faye and I imagine she would be sharper.
I would say the whole thing was quite entertaining and reasonably well executed, especially in the covid situation as I think a couple of minor roles had to be covered as well. The theatre group seemed to enjoy it too.

I imagine most audiences are being fairly generous at the moment cos they are just glad to be back in a theatre.

Absolutely. And the poor chap had been thrown in with hardly any notice so well done him, really.
