He was probably only funded for 4 programmes. However, although it could have been 12, it is making him focus on the 'Union' and not anything else. Separate programmes could look at clearances, the hungry forties, fencing, suffragettes etc. With all these other things going on he's having to edit carefully to keep bringing it back to how it effects the union. There are tantalising glimpses about what else is happening e.g. Scottish. English and Welsh Jacobites becoming wealthy again within a generation due to empire, even getting their titles and land back in many cases. The Corn Law, Repeal Act etc. have been mentioned.
I wonder if there is more available on the website. Is it an Open University production. I know he wants this to be part of the national curriculum for late primary and early secondary students in England. I think he has said in the past that if people understand why we are a union they will see it for what it is and be better able to decide whether they want it or not. I think he does, but he is inscrutable and it was helpful to note that there was aid going to Ireland - not aid as we know it now but more aid than anyone had ever considered giving the poor before. I was taught that millions died across Europe due to the potato famine and this is rarely if ever noted. I was also taught that almost as many people in London and Manchester died in the hungry forties but I don't know if that is true, teaching back then was simply what the teacher told you and not necessarily backed up and verified.
