I enjoyed this! Really wasn't expecting to but it was respectful of Christie. The writers also know the Canon as I had great fun recognising which books they were lifting bits from. I think I counted 10!

There’s a new Agatha Christie on BBC1 on the 27th…. It's not been Phelpsed, has it? ETA: It's not! Yeh! It has been changed but I think we expect that now. As long as they haven't messed with the story. Or if they have, and I expect they will, they've changed it to a good story as they did when they Marplised it. I thought they did a good job of that. This is one of Christie's dafter plots and the way the gay character is written is completely beyond the pale these days. There's no way they will include him as written. So it will be interesting to see if they change it but make it still Christie.

No it’s definitely not been Phelpsed. The trailers look good. It’s not Marple or Poirot, and they haven’t made it as such, which is good. Can’t remember enough of the original book to know what they may have changed, so that is also good. Unfortunately I do think I know who does it, unless I’m thinking of another book. Will keep

Anyone watching this? Quite Christie-like, very enjoyable so far I agree but did think the acting was a bit rubbish. Is it a pilot for a series, when she becomes a private detective? Also, I thought at first it was set in America.

The acting wasn't the best, I agree. Where have we seen the American actor before? He looked really familiar but I'm sure the actor I'm thinking of is dead.

I wonder if it is a pilot for a series, it was certainly setting up to be.

Totally mystified by the expression 'Phelpsed', Google turned up some *ahem!* strange definitions which didn't seem to fit a TV show What does it mean exactly in this context? I enjoyed 'Invitation to Murder' anyway, it was an easy sort of watch (well, until the big reveal at the end, where I had to really pay attention to what was what) But ***spoiler alert!***am I right that there are no actual murders in it?

"Phelpsed" refers to Sarah Phelps who adapted several stories for the BBC a couple of years ago. And in the opinion of many, ruined each one she touched. She then got arrogant about the criticism and said we were all too stupid and hidebound to understand her vision. As you can imagine, she's not loved by the Christie fandom. TV critics adored her. Which tells you all you need to know about TV critics.
