Well, he dug the “grave” over many weeks before he even killed her. The area he dug was somewhere he flew his plane over regularly on his route to US destinations so he chose it because he knew it was remote. He and the police both said that if he hadn’t taken them there, they’d never have found her. That seems pre-meditated to me. I think the only moment of madness he suffered was when he rang the police to report her dead. Why? Perhaps he got cold feet and thought it’d be less traumatic than playing a waiting game while they looked for her. And maybe a lighter sentence.
