I see France are already getting flack because they have said that hijabs are banned in the stadiums and no female competitor can wear one because of their rules around secularism in public places. Several groups have appealed this and been turned down. The French Minister said they will not change it, it is not allowed in schools and public sports facilities and it will not be allowed here.
Within the athletes village people can wear what they want. The IOC says it can't intervene.
You'd think they would have sorted these things out before they awarded the games.

Just started to look at the new RT and it is the Olympics special edition. So details of all their coverage is out, and it even refers to the Red Button! I thought at first I had been sent the wrong edition when it said 27th July! Gymnastics starts early, from Day 1 with qualification. I shall have to moderate my watching though as the TV backlog will get even longer.

So not quite 2 weeks peace between the football and the Olympic shenanigans

I’ve just seen Saturday’s TV schedule in the ST supplement, and BBC1 has non -stop Olympics from 8.00 until 22.00, except for 2 news breaks. Then after the late news a further 90 minute highlights show. That’s not usual is it? I can’t even remember quite that much from 2012 but memory fades… So I wonder if this will continue across the Games.

In 2012 there were lots of extra Red button channels that appeared overnight, so you could choose which sport to watch. ITV showed all the Poirots, and I recorded them to watch at leisure

As the BBC have to use the Discovery feed, they will probably have similar arrangements to the Rio Olympics. Which weren't great if I remember right.

If anyone wants access to the Discovery+ feeds of everything, the 1 month pass is only £3.99 at the moment! (I was a little too organised and subscribed a day before they introduced the Olympics discount... )

Will the red button be given a brief mention amongst all the IPlayer hype. Not everybody can afford broadband.

It is mentioned in this week’s RT Olympic summary and probably in the daily summaries from next week.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/c2v0j0j6nqloHow did this man get away with this. 4 years for raping a child and only served 1 year. Oh, but he did do some counselling so that's ok. No, it isn't, he raped a child. Somethings you do should have lifelong repercussions, certainly not a shot in the Olympics.

Our dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin has withdrawn from the Games in light of an investigation into an error of judgement made 4 years ago in a coaching session. Well that’s a shame! I don’t know anything about said error, just that she has made a statement and withdrawn. I also didn’t realise she is equal with Laura Kenny for Olympic medals.

There is video footage of her her excessively whipping one of her horses, apparently although not confirmed in front of pupils. Enough whipping for the Equestrian Association to bar her. The footage isn't new, it's just been recently sent to the Association and on that basis she withdrew from the Olympics.
Not sad at all about her, she calls it an error of judgement, I call it animal cruelty.

The Dutch chef de whatever they call it, apparently doesn’t understand the fuss! Perhaps he would had this bar steward raped his 12 year old daughter. I find this story incredible. It was in the ST the other week and mentioned on LBC this morning. Am I right in thinking he won’t be staying in the Athletes’ Village? Well if he isn’t safe enough to do that, he’s not safe enough to compete is he? I wonder how the female athletes on the Dutch team feel about his inclusion. Or about walking with him at the ceremonies, because I flipping well wouldn’t want to.

Olympics already started on the red button. Favourites NZ have crashed out of the rugby sevens.
