I don't know why anyone would know about Dick Turpin nowadays. It's not taught anymore. The only time they would get an inkling of who he was is if they watched a Carry On film with their grandparents. I always wonder whether people have to do a basic test to get on the show, but then I think it must be quiet easy to end up with a run of four or five questions you just don't know the answer to. I wouldn't have a clue about most celebrities nowaday or Corrie/Enders etc and I've never watched GOT and only managed one Harry POtter, barely listen to music in the charts and probably would still call some countries/cities by the older name!! That said, I haven't entered myself for it and shown up my ignorance.

Unless they have changed the process, then yes beverley, they do do a basic test to get on the show. I applied online and if you're lucky, they call you. It's done over the phone and you have to answer a series of questions each one within 5 seconds.

I guess that's fair enough, but you could still hit a run of questions you have no clue about, even nerves could do for you. Have you been on then?

I guess that's fair enough, but you could still hit a run of questions you have no clue about, even nerves could do for you. Have you been on then? Absolutely. In fact they hit me with a run of questions that I didn't know most of the answers for, so no - I didn't get on the show!

I felt there was a very dubious question tonight, well it was wrong. My family think I am being pedantic but I think I am being correct.
The question went something like this:
What is the commonly used prefix for Godgifu of Mercia.
It was pronounced on the show as GODGIFOO, when in fact it would have been pronounced Godyeeva or Goditha and if that is what was said on the show I think the contestant would have got it or had an educated guess at Lady Godiva, which was pronounced Godeeva for many centuries and only latterly Godeye-va.
Thoroughly unfair of the researchers to do that to a contestant.

I didn't see this episode but I often find Bradley hard to understand when he is going fast and his pronunciation sometimes off.

It would help if they had a Stop/Repeat button but in this instance I think Bradley would have said it the same way unless the researchers told him it was different as it is the way someone would phonetically read it today but if he had read it correctly it would have been much easier to make the connection.
The contestant was a bright woman and that extra point/second would have perhaps let her win.

I don’t generally watch The Chase, but happened to catch today’s celebrity episode. What an impressive team - notably, Lucy Porter. They won £152,000.
Such a relief after all the giggly, “What am I like?” celebs they usually rope into these things.

It was a fab chase wasn't it. I know it was a repeat, but hadn't seen it before. Biggest sum I think I've ever seen won!

I had to leave before Steve Davis had his turn, I think at that point they had £150,000? So Steve must have added £2,000 and they all got through I thought it was a very good programme, lots of amusement, especially when Lucy was taken on one side and 'told off' by Bradley, but they certainly took the question answering seriously, well done to them!

No, they had £150k after the first three contestants. Jay won £35k, Lucy won £50k and Krishnan won £65k . Steve did indeed go for £2k after he was persuaded by his colleagues that his 4th place on the team (and therefore a step closer to the jackpot) was worth it!

Oops, I think I've confused things, must have come back to correct my post (I typed £100,000 first time) while you were replying, Cake But the main point stands, a wonderful result for their 4 charities!
