Was a bit confused as to where Carolines new lady friend had come from but it did give some insight near the end. Love the new house but dont think it would be the type of house Caroline would have chosen I am assuming it was a vailable as a location that fitted in with the Cragg Vale Coiners story: www.mytholmroyd.net/features/coiners.html

I enjoyed it too, though thought the dilapidated farmhouse was a bit OTT. There must be plenty of farmhouses that have already had the designer treatment that Caroline would have been able to afford. I like the ghost story element (both of them), provided it doesn't turn into a real ghost!
The jury seems to be out on whether there will be another full series. It depends on how available Sally Wainwright is to write it I suppose – I do hope she resists the temptation to hand over the writing to someone else.
Meant to add, I thought Judith looked fabulous at the start - her dress was gorgeous. Though I wasn't convinced by her as a best-selling author and wonder how this is going to fit into the story. Too busy with her life to bother about John's younger son I suppose.

As did John in his dinner suit.

Enjoyed it. Mainly because of the excellent acting by all concerned. Thought the three "boys" all looked a bit adult now - if this goes on to another series, they may all be looking old enough for drawing their pensions, themselves!

It was very good, the dialogue is both wonderfully written and spoken and never fails to bring a few laughs.

Just started part 1. I am sure they will do the house up nicely, eventually, but if I were Celia and Alan I wouldn't have moved with her!!

Maybe it is just me but I found the ending tonight disappointing and lacking conviction. I shall be very interested to see what other people thought.

I didn't particularly like the am-dram subplot, with all the knowing, arch dialogue. But I did like the rest; brave of Gillian to want to tell the truth finally - she believes she doesn't have the right to be happy. And I'm sure Caroline will make a terrific head.

Didn't Celia and Alan buy a bungalow in the last series or did I dream that?. The farmhouse was a tip and given the house she was in previously I didn't find it very realistic that she would not even have cleaned the windows.

It all seemed a bit rushed and unsatisfactory. It finished ambiguously so that it could come back again some time....but possibly not. The whole thing just felt like the end of an era to me. It has been one of the best ideas on tv for a long time, the writing and the acting have been top notch and, if we never see it again I will be very sorry.

I agree with others, the ending was a disappointment, if it is to come back you could say fair enough but if not it was a real let down IMO.Hopefully we'll see it again in the future and other 'loose' ends will be tied up.

Perhaps it's because all three series ended with a wedding, so even though there was heartache along the way the endings were upbeat. The closing seconds this time were upbeat, sort of, with Caroline and Gillian looking forward. We do seem to have lost the original premise of late-flowering love. Perhaps Sally Wainwright felt there wasn't any more mileage to be explored in Alan and Celia's relationship but it seems a pity they were sidelined to the am dram story.

I thought it was OK but I agree that Celia and Alan appear sidelined. I thought Gillian's guilt and confession, and the relief that brought, were well done and I liked Olga the wine seller. However I did not for one minute buy Caroline's conversion to the "private school bad, state school good" school of thought, which I felt was laid on with a trowel. Unless she had been hired as a Superhead on mega bucks.

I felt that Caroline would have found Olga very annoying: she is so hyper. I heard Anne Reid in a radio interview saying that both she and Derek Jacobi were disappointed that there was less about the two of them in the last few episodes. But then, I thought that their story can only be one of humdrum life, at their time of life

Just watched the second episode and found it inconclusive. I thought Gillian was going to torch the barn after she bolted the door in her last scene.
So hope there will be another series to see how Caroline gets on and what happens to everyone else.
