I wasn't commenting about the acting in the Michelle storyline, or anything to do with their experiences in real life. What I pointed out was that every major character in last night's episode was involved in some kind of serious crisis. There was, in fact, an interlude of about two minutes of humour with Gemma. Otherwise it was totally people having a very bad time involving miscarriage, theft by deceit, threats from Phelan etc. etc.

Having gone through a stillbirth many years ago, I thought both Kym and Simon did a brilliant job. I don't know how Kym could relive what happened to her with her son Archie, but she did and made a fantastic job of it. It's also created quite a debate on DS on that hospital's policy of not intervening if the birth is before 24 weeks and if there should be a change in the NHS policy of classing it as a miscarriage before 24 weeks and therefore not issuing birth and death certificates, and a stillbirth after that when certificates are issued and therefore only then recognised as a child. Both miscarriages and stillbirths are more common than you'd imagine. I agree with you Janet. Some fabulous acting from Kym and Simon. I had a miscarriage between nos 2 & 3 sons (very early so while sad, not so bad), but my Mum lost both her naturally conceived babies to stillbirth (at about 6 months). As did my mother in law. He would have been MrC's oldest brother if he had survived. Actually, he did survive 3 hours, but there was no medical intervention to help him survive even at full term (this was 1940s). I was in the middle of trying to find out where they buried his little body at the time MIL died. Never did find out.

Up until the 1980s, some stillborn babies were buried in the coffin of a deceased adult, others had their own graves. Sometimes the parents knew where the grave was, others, like me, have no idea where the plot is or if he was buried alone or in tandem with an adult. Fortunately the attitude of "out of sight out of mind" has changed. This article from 2011 on how a couple found the grave of their stillborn daughter might interest you. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1366962/How-heartbroken-couples-secret-graves-long-lost-stillborn-children.html

Oh burger! The Phelan nastiness continues, and gets even more distasteful. For heavens sake, bring this horrible character and his doings to an end.

I agree this stuff is all WAY too dark for Corrie and as I said before it should lighten up as it's really putting me off watching and I've grown up with Corrie!

Richard Hillman was pretty dark, wasn't he?
Personally I'm enjoying the Phelan story.

Richard Hillman was evil (but very watchable) but I think they have gone too far with the odious Phelan. I now watch it on catch up and fast forward his bits. I have no interest him as a character, he has no redeemable features. Plus of the episode was Tim and Sally on that Tandem. I wasn't surprised to see the end of Ches and Sinead.

You should try listening. He has some great lines. A good villain enjoys their evil and he does. Ches & Sinead very 'all of a sudden' IMO and the tandem was too obviously meant to be funny for me.

Not sure how easy it is to cry to order repeatedly but Kym Marsh has mastered this.
Last night's episodes were pretty strong and she has played the grieving mother brilliantly, there was not much doubt that she was going to be sound safe, but even so.
There was also some good humour with Norris and his lodgers to lighten the mood .
Though no-one seems to have noticed that Mary returned, hasn't been seen since.
