It was lovely to see Gloucester Cathedral in today’s episode, those cloisters are stunning.

No surprises here. BBC One have renewed hit daytime drama Father Brown for a seventh series, which is set to air in 2019.
“Father Brown will be back in early 2019 solving crimes in the Cotswolds and viewers can prepare for an enticing new series on BBC Daytime and the BBC iPlayer”, said Dan McGolpin Controller of Programming and Daytime for the BBC.
Father Brown ranks as BBC One’s number one daytime drama with an average audience over 2.3 million viewers.
In series seven, when Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll) returns from Northern Rhodesia in need of help, Father Brown is forced to conclude that none other than Hercule Flambeau (John Light) may be her greatest ally. Meanwhile a familiar face returns to Kembleford when a notorious police killer is spotted near the village, putting Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton) in grave danger.
“In this series we see anarchists, ramblers and Morris Dancers all throwing up new adventures for Father Brown but as ever, he’s more concerned with saving souls that in just bringing the guilty to justice”, said Will Trotter, Head of Daytime Drama for BBC Studios. “This summer was spent filming in our favourite locations across the Midlands from Evesham to Warwick and showcasing the beautiful period Cotswolds villages. Series seven is set to be the best one yet.”
Father Brown is the second of BBC One’s daytime drama series to earn a renewal for next year, after the channel picked up a second series of Shakespeare & Hathaway – Private Investigators a couple of months ago. No word yet on whether or not BBC One will be sticking with Australian acquisition The Doctor Blake Mysteries, which after being cancelled by the ABC moved to Seven for four TV movies. That plan for four TV movies took on a different flavour earlier this year when Seven announced that the first such movie would not feature star Craig McLachlan.

I’m very disappointed in this new series. I’ve just watched a few that’s have on series record , and I must admit I switched them off before they finished because I didn’t care about what happened . The one I’ve just half watched included a scene where the detective and police sergeant went into into a remote house where they believed an armed murderer was hiding. They were both unarmed . The obvious happened and the injured detective ended up under the body of the sergeant who had been shot. Next scene, both in hospital! How did they get there ? No one knew where they were. It also made me think that the detective was quite small , I thought the height requirements in those days was taller than it is now. My mind starts to wander when I watch programmes that are too unbelievable. I know I’m just being picky but I used to enjoy this programme but not now .

You’re lucky it wasn’t Vera - she would have just gone in on her own, with only the contents of her many waxed jacket’s pockets to protect her!
Or Nicky from Silent Witness who follows dangerous people relentlessly - and she’s not even a police officer......

Renewed for series 8 and 9.
After a five year break, Hugo Speer (The Musketeers) is returning to Father Brown. The actor, most recently seen on BBC One in U.S. acquisition London Kills, is set to reprise his role as Chief Inspector Valentine. He last appeared in Father Brown’s series two premiere back in 2014.
In addition to Hugo Speer, fan favourites Alex Price (Penny Dreadful) and Nancy Carroll (Prime Suspect 1973) are also returning for series eight and will be reprising their roles as Sid Carter and Lady Felicia, respectively. Other returning guest stars include John Light as Hercule Flambeau, Alan Williams as Blind ‘Arry and Tom Chambers as Chief Inspector Sullivan.

I thought this jumped the shark about 3 series ago. Be nice if it got back to its original self.

Our policeman do enter buildings unarmed when looking for suspects, but as you say even then an armed unit might be called if they knew the suspect was armed himself. I remember this one and I too wondered who called the ambulance.

I wonder if Hugo Speer is coming back full time or if it is just a brief return. I don't like the current Inspector, he is far too shouty for me.

Oh good, the 'old guard' are returning. Quite like Tom Chambers, Hugo Speer (bit of gravitas) and Nancy Carroll. Not too keen on her neice, Bunty. Too much 'jolly hockeysticks' for me.

So long as they have got rid of the current Inspector, it was making the show go completely downhill
