I'd just love them to beat France.
I forgot Wales! Have to support them too!

I don't understand the media surprise. It was obvious that Iceland were playing brilliantly and we weren't.
Why, I ask myself, is the England manager's job the highest paid international manager's job in the world?

Oh well England were frozen out by Iceland!
I'll get me coat! LOL!
Bet the WAGs will have to avoid a certain frozen food chain for a while ...! Mind you most wouldn't be seen dead in there

England still wouldn't have won if they'd been playing Lidl.

On the other board I remarked that the (GB) Davis Cup team showed more passion and it also included a multi million pound player ...
Apparently one of the England players tweeted that he would be able to go on his hols to Dubai earlier than planned. A lot of commitment there (not).
I'm not a footie fan but feel sorry for those who are having to watch that dross.
I hope Wales show them up.

I have long thought we should give Championship players a chance. Perhaps they would be sufficiently pumped up to play for England?

I don't understand the media surprise. It was obvious that Iceland were playing brilliantly and we weren't. Why, I ask myself, is the England manager's job the highest paid international manager's job in the world? The British media really seemed to demonstrate a sheer ignorance of who Iceland were. They say that there is only one Premier League player in their 23 players, mention how small the country is, and how dark it gets in winter, as if it is a deeply primitive country coming out of the dark ages. They ignore that most of the players play across Europe, in countries from Norway and Sweden in the north, through Belgium, and down to Italy; and that many of them have Champions and Europa league experience. They also ignore the fact that, from any early age, they are ( as children) trained by UEFA certified coaches*. If I can find this out by simply looking on the internet, surely it is not beyond the wit of reporters and commentators to find the same stuff. Maybe the players caught a little of this and didn't feel the need to play. *Around 70% of all coaches in Iceland have completed the UEFA B licences and 30% have completed the UEFA A licence.

I think it suits the current thinking to portray Iceland as gutsy part-timers who have to work on fishing boats during the week etc etc as opposed to being a bunch of overpaid, underperforming prima donnas who would rather fiddle with their iPhones than pay attention to the opposition. Well that paid off, didn't it? Go Iceland!!! A team who actually care about doing well for their country as opposed to future advertising endorsements.
Too harsh? Sorry!

I really don't understand why they do it, either. All they have to do is look at them. Okay, the manager was a part-time dentist, but that is not so much because of the team, as because of the state of football INSIDE the country. After the tournament, he becomes full time.

Money (particularly the huge amounts in football) has ruined the game. I used to be a footie fan and saw some great football. I have stopped watching, because my blood pressure rises when I see pampered, overpaid players who can't be bothered to run for the ball. Saying that,I am rooting for Wales.I am married to a Welshman and have lived most of my life in Wales.
