As a subject for a drama it is an interesting idea. But I think this has been poorly written.

It has lots of plot holes. Why was the heroine suddenly transformed from someone who was terrified of being in charge, to someone so proficient almost instantly, that others were praising her sales techniques? It was as if we'd missed part of the action.
I do rather tire of all the men being shown as either callous or hopeless.
I stopped watching In The Club because it was similar. There are some good moments of humour, and it's fun to be taken back to the 80s, but I may not last to the final episode.

I wasn't expecting the car crash. It didn't half make me jump!

The same policeman for every incident?
Still, I'm enjoying it.

I wasn't expecting the car crash. It didn't half make me jump! Me too. It was quite shocking and I almost felt as though it was me who had been hit. I spent a lot of episode one trying to remember what I had seen the actress playing Steph in before. Then I remembered: she was Honoria in Dickensian, back in the winter. In one way, similar roles.....a downtrodden, held-back woman trying to break out and do what she wants, not what her father or husband wants. I thought at the beginning that this was a comedy drama but it has taken a darker turn now. I will keep watching though.

I caught up this week with this . There a soapy feel to it . It also feels very dated ( I don't mean the era I mean the plot). I recall going with a friend to a " private shop" which had had a lot of publicity on its opening , around 81 ish . She lived with her partner and I'd gone with her out of curiosity . Marital Aids were openly talked about in our office and we even had a sex magazine on circulation in our office - it always had "position of the week " . I don't know if we were the exception or not . Good fun though . I think I've been spoilt by the quality of dramas such as Happy Valley and Peaky Blinders ( which Sophie Rundell was also in , a cracking little actress) and this falls short of that . I'll probably watch it , but when there's nothing else on I fancy .

Anyone else watch this last night? I don't want to say much if people are waiting to watch their recordings. Suffice to say, I was very surprised!

Yes I'm still watching, I'm really enjoying it. I remember Ann Summers opening in Scarborough years ago. My mother was disgusted. But the 2 old ladies in the downstairs flat went to look! The only time I remember anything being discussed at work, it was one of my patients. Her husband worked on oil rigs. She called it her "egg whisk". The first time I saw one was on a documentary when I was living in Ireland, and it caused uproar! But there is/was an Ann Summers in Dublin. There was the tiniest nun outside with a collecting box!

Wondered what everyone thought of the final episode last night. I enjoyed it, but it was all rather predictable and clichéd. I'm never a fan of the old {Spoiler} spontaneous labour and speedy birth thing, but it was ok really.

Everything seemed to be wrapped up neatly in this episode (apart from Pauline and Brian) I wonder if they'll bother with another series.

I was trying to work out what age Pauline was supposed to be. I mean, Penelope Wilton is 70 and Johnny was, what, around 30? So surely she wouldn't have been forced by her father to give up her baby at 40... I suppose we're meant to think of her as in her 50s, but as great an actress as she is, I struggle with this.

Caught up with the last two eps last night. I enjoyed it.
Was Don Gilet wearing a wig? Not sure if he previously shaved his head but I have only ever seen him bald.

I finally saw the last episode.
Not a fan of series which have stories taking weeks to come to the boil, then everything being crammed into the final ten minutes.. It was pretty obvious that the baby would be born "suddenly" at an inconvenient time. I thought that Penelope Wilton did a very good job with her part: she's always watchable, but the lines were a bit clunky.
A soon forgotten series, sadly.

For me it served a purpose as a relaxing watch that didn't require me to think deeply at the end of the day. I will probably watch a second series, depending on what the competition is at the time.
