TV seems a bit slow at the moment so thought I'd recommend a few old films that are on over the next two weeks on TP.
Mon 17th Aug
23:00
The Go-Between
With Alan Bates and Julie Christie. Directed by Jospeh Losey
I watched A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg a few days ago and am always blown away by how good Alan Bates is. They seem to show The Running Man a lot of Sony Classics, another good film.
Tues 18th Aug
01:20
A Severed Head
With Ian Holm, Lee Remick and Richard Attenborough. Based on the novel by Iris Murdoch
Tues 18th Aug
17:20
Rotten To The Core
With Denholm Elliott, Charlotte Rampling, Lionel Jeffries and Anton Rodgers
Tues 18th Aug
19:20
The Pot Carriers
With Paul Massie, Ronald Fraser and Dennis Price.
I thought this was going to be an out and out comedy, but it also shows some of the tricks the prison inmates use. Think Porridge.
Wed 19th Aug
13:00
Bang! You're Dead
With Jack Warner, Derek Farr and Michael Medwin
I haven't seen this one, but the synopsis reads as 'A tragic accident leads to a man being wrongly accused of murder.' I might try and see this. I watched The Square Ring with Jack Warner last night.
Sat 22nd Aug (Repeated Thurs 27th Aug @14:30)
13:50
The Punch And Judy Man
With Tony Hancock, Sylvia Syms and Ronald Fraser
Sat 22nd Aug (Repeated Tue 25th Aug @19:00)
19:50
The Angry Silence
With Richard Attenborough and Michael Craig
This is a brilliant film which I only watched again last weekend. It was co-written by Michael Craig, I think with his brother and was, I think, nominated for a screenplay Oscar.
It follows Attenborough as he refuses to take part in an unofficial strike, he then gets sent to coventry even though its unofficial and he needs the money to get a house. He's living in a flat with a wife and two children and Michael Craig is the lodger. Craig moves out and is stuck in the middle. In the end the children are targeted, which leads to a heartbreaking scene between father and son and an 'accident', which makes everyone take stock of the part they played.
Mon 24th Aug
07:30
The Black Sheep Of Whitehall
With John Mills and Will Hays. Directed by Basil Dearden
An early John Mills film.
Thurs 27th Aug
12:00
Private's Progress
With Ian Carmichael, Richard Attenborough, Dennis Price and Terry-Thomas
"You're a shower. An absolute shower!"
Tues 1st Sept
00:00
Murder Without Crime
With Dennis Price and Derek Farr
I love this film. It's a bit of a B movie, but I like the story and adore Dennis Price in this (there's a few Dennis Price films on over the next two weeks, aswell as the three here, there's also A Touch Of The Sun, She Played With Fire and Go To Blazes). Farr thinks he's murdered his partner and puts her in the ottoman. Price then blackmails Farr, but benown to Farr his partner isn't dead after all!
Stephen:What's on your mind Matthew.
Matthew:Hatred Stephen. Bitter unquenchable hatred. I've never shown hatred why should...but Ive hated you Stephen. Hated you. :-D
Wed 2nd Sept
22:05
The Comedy Man
With Kenneth More, Dennis Price, Cecil Parker and Billie Whitelaw
More plays an actor who's having trouble finding work. His friend has gone to Hollywood while he's doing mint commercials. He decides to go back to Rep work and serious theatre to remember why he wanted to be an actor in the first place. One of my favourite Kenneth More films.
