Even though Tommy Lee Jones usually plays the rough, gruff blue collar types, he is highly educated and attended Harvard where his university roommate was Al Gore.
He also played on the Harvard football team.
I agree that he often plays "physical" roles but is not what I would consider an "action star" by any stretch.

If Tommy Lee Jones is in the cast of a movie, I will watch it. I’m not often disappointed.

He was brilliant in the first 2 Men in Black. A change of direction for him into comedy/action but his droll on screen persona was perfect for the character.
Also wonderful in The Fugitive which had comic elements particularly his pep talks to his team.

One of Tommy Lee's first film roles was in the 1982 biopic "The Executioners Song", which is the true story of Gary Gilmore, a spree killer in the mid-1970s who was the first person executed in the US when the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.
Its a VERY good film and Tommy Lee plays Gilmore as a very sympathetic career criminal who tried hard to go straight but could not overcome his inner demons.
You can see the full film free on YouTube and the video quality is excellent.

As I am sure we all agree, the film is superb. But I felt the long running TV series was better. David Jansen had that dark sadness needed for the character of Richard Kimball the wrongly accused doctor on the run. He almost never broke a hint of a smile. Plus his travelling from place to place every week, trying to both find the elusive one-armed man AND stay ahead of the obsessive cop chasing him allowed for him to find himself in a different situation every week and for weekly guest stars. He always took some menial job, bartender, janitor, laborer, handyman...and someone would always get sick or hurt and his skills as a doctor would be required and blow his cover and he would have to hitchhike or jump on the next bus out of town. Bill Bixby followed the same premise on his brilliant "Incredible Hulk" series in the 1970s.

A bit last minute but The Rocky Horror Picture Show is on tonight at 10pm. A great film that zips by as it's so enjoyable with a fantastic amount of songs.

Is one of the films I'd take to a desert island. I'm watching now and Meatloaf will be making an appearance after the break. I like doing the audience participation during some parts like Eddie's Teddy.
Dr Scott-From the day he was born Audience-Not the night but the day Dr Scott-He was trouble Audience-Not Monopoly but trouble Dr Scott-He was the thorn AP-Not the rose but the thorn Etc.

Love Tim Curry in stockings and stilettos. I love him in this film, but also Clue. It's brilliant. I'm sure I read a while back that they were remaking it with maybe Ryan Gosling! It's a cult classic, you can't remake it.
