These type of shows Havent been broadcast in years, before Britbox was a thing, and they Havent been brought out on DVD. Some of them, from the 60s/70s won't be shown due to their content, views of the era, which means they'll never get shown and there are some absolutely great stories and actors which will just be lost. ...it's not just rights.....isn't permission required from the actors concerned in these dramas...or their families if they have passed away.....the TV series The Professionals was blocked for many years from being repeated by the actor Martin Shaw.... I don't know. Maybe it's based on contracts signed. I'd have thought that a production company/makers of the show would want to do what they want with the show once the actors have been paid. For one actor to say you can't show that programme is a bit much when they've been paid for it and there's all the other actors who may want the show to be repeated for repeat fees. Maybe old contracts, from 70s etc, didn't take into account the fact a show might want to get repeated or sold to other channels or sold on DVD. I'd assume modern contracts would say the makers can do want they want. I haven't see Man At The Top, but it's on my list. I've seen the two Laurence Harvey films, Room At The Top and Life At The Top.

Thought I'd copy this over from the movie thread.
Bit late but Sapphire is on tonight at 9:25pm on Talking Pictures.
"A pregnant college student named Sapphire Robbins (Yvonne Buckingham) is murdered in London's Hampstead Heath. When police superintendent Robert Hazard (Nigel Patrick) discovers that the victim was a light-skinned black woman passing as white, it upends his initial assumptions. Hazard and his openly racist assistant (Michael Craig) explore the city's racially tense underground jazz scene as they interview suspects, including Sapphire's white fiancé (Paul Massie)" It also stars Earl Cameron and Yvonne Mitchell.
Really good film by Basil Dearden from 1959, I think it won the BAFTA for best British film with the story by Janet Green. They both also worked together 2yrs later on Victim dealing with homosexuality laws and Dearden worked with Michael Craig on the film Life For Ruth dealing with religion and morality and ethics when Craigs character, as a Jehovahs Witness, won't allow his daughter a blood transfusion (I don't know if that was a Janet Green story?). He did a few issue based films which I've enjoyed.
Sapphire deals with race issues in the 50s so has language and outdated views from that times. Talking Pictures usually put a warning up.

TP was mentioned on BBC 6pm News tonight. They did an interview with the father and daughter team that run the channel from a shed/extension in their garden and mentioned how during lockdown their viewing figures have gone up. Kind of ironic that the BBC did the story. I'd suggest that part of the reason the viewing figures are up is because other channels aren't showing these films. BBC2 used to, and during lockdown they did a few weeks of old movies at 3pm, but that's disappeared now. And the guy running it said that when he approached a satellite broadcaster years ago he was told they don't show black & white films after 4pm! Luckily there's TP and now Sony Classics and both on freeview.
Talking of which Wed-22:05 - The Birthday Present with Tony Britton and Sylvia Syms.
Fri-14:30 - Kind Hearts And Coronets...I have to confess when I go to Tesco they have cheap Strawberries called Perfectly Imperfect. Every week I pick a box up and quote this film "I'd say you were the perfect combination of imperfections"😶
Also 9pm Sony Classics Women In Love To Sir With Love

Now and again I lose some of my Freeview channels, always includes Yesterday and others which I probably don't watch. Sadly this time it's TP too
Generally takes one or two rescans to restore them, but I'm currently in the 'Don't mess with the TV in case it all goes wrong mode' ... shame because there are some good films coming up

That happens with me too. Sometimes I put Sony Classics on and it's just an black screen. I rescan and that sorts it. I must lose (or gain) a few channels because last time TP was at the bottom of my EPG menu and now it's towards the top, but all the ones I watch are there, TP, Sony Classics, Movies, Forces, Challenge, BBC4, ITV3, ITV4, Drama, and occasionally a few others but as long as I have them I'm ok. Rescan!😉

Maybe it's down to location and the signal. I watch it on an old portable and I've got the aerial just so, touch it and I'll end up gaining one and losing two channels, and just now, I like the ones I've got. Sony disappears for me sometimes, it'll be fine for a week or two and then a blank screen. I noticed last night that Forces Tv is telling to rescan.

Same here, old portable and an aerial which responds tetchily to being breathed on, let alone touched!
I'll have a go at re-scanning....later.....

I don't know what technologies tv's use internally to access signals, but I know we got an email at work that Internet Explorer is pretty much kaput and has been replaced by Microsoft Edge and that any electronic devices such as computers, tablets, smartphones etc. that use Internet Explorer as their internet point of entry will need to switch over to Edge as IE is no longer supported and will eventually completely stop working.
