It's been confirmed on the Drama channels twitter page that when The Bill finished it will start again on the 14th August...FROM THE BEGINNING!!!! 😆😆😆😆
I love early Bill. It's so much more gritty and funny than the soap it turned into at the end. It'll be great to see some of the early characters. I liked the troubled Young, who I think died in series 7, so that's a way off. And Loxton ohhh and Yorkie Smith. The episodes will be mid 80s so I can see them cutting the episodes, which will be annoying if they do. Put a warning out. Or show an uncut version later at night, but that'll be too much effort. Still, Bill from the start. 😆

.....I remember Tosh(Lines?) and Ted the whisky drinker(always kept a bottle in his desk).......ironically sad that the actor who played Tosh was the one with the real drink problem.....

I used to love watching The Bill as a kid, especially the 30min episodes. Each episodes focused on a different story and to get in done and dusted in 25mins (minus the ads) was pretty good. It meant there was always something happening...and even when nothing was happening it was brilliant. The episode 'They Also Serve' shows Stamp, Quinnan, Stringer, Hollis, Data, Young, Ackland, Maitland and French (?) In the back of a minibus waiting to be called as back up for a riot. The first 11mins is all in one shot and it's just the characters playing cards and talking rubbish. And it's brilliant. In the last 3-5mins, the minibus is ambushed by the rioters on its way back to the station, and you don't see it coming and it's full of action. It goes from one extreme to the other. Another good one is FATAC, where Yorkie Smith is the first on the scene at a accident. He's waiting for fire and ambulance which are delayed so he's there on his own trying to deal with the casualties and get statements. One group are saying it's someone's fault, while another group are saying the opposite. I think someone else dissapears from the scene who's a witness. When Sgt Penny arrives hes annoyed at whats happening. Hes like an old school copper, verses a new/newer recruit.
Alfred Lines was Tosh, I think nicknamed cause of his bushy moustache or pronounced moo-stosh. Ted Roach was the one with the drink problem. I think they're remembered for having Burnside as their boss but they had others like Galloway (who I think had an affair with Ackland).

....I thought the hour episodes which were introduced before the axing were very good but I guess the ratings weren't healthy.....there was a period when it got too soapy and we stopped watching.....

That's what happened with me. The storylines all seemed to revolve around sexual assault or drugs and it was which officer was sleep with which officer. I stopped watching just after Gabriel Kent, I think. They killed off Boulton which was a big no-no in my book.
...Ive actually watched the first 9eps on youtube! I just couldn't wait! 😶 And I loved them for all the nostalgia, all the old characters, and Bob Cryer comes across as a real life Sgt. There was a scene where Galloway is trying to grab a guy as he runs down the stairs and there's a scuffle and the man falls down a set of stairs. They must have got a stuntman who could act as there's no cutting away, it's done in one shot, so the scuffle guy is the guy falls down the stairs. Amazing. H&S be damned! Lol

I'm just watching the first one. It looks really old-fashioned now. I'd forgotten the police station was a set of portakabins!

I'm just watching the first one. It looks really old-fashioned now. I'd forgotten the police station was a set of portakabins! See, that's what I like about it, it's old fashioned feel. The old transit minibus, the O on the epilets instead on SO, the fashions (Vivs hair!), Edwards, just being in the show. Galloway! I like Burnside but Galloway is just a bit calmer and Salthouse is so good. I wish they hadn't cut a few bits here and there. It wasn't things that were cut for language, violence or anything, it's just to fit the time slot. Edwards and Carvers mini water fight in the bathroom. ...portakabins? It was filmed in an old warehouse in Wapping, not far from Tower Bridge. During the newspaper strikes the actors got a bit of hassle, the strickers thought they were real police. They moved a series or two later to Kensington but had to move again when the owner wanted to sell to developers (I think Max Branning was involved!lol) They then ended up in Merton, which is now the Wimboldon Studios, until the shows final.

Oh it's a warehouse! That explains it. It's the offices, they look like they are in builders portakabins.

I thought it was doomed when they changed the time slot to 9 pm and tried to jazz it up to compete with other crime shows in that slot. It would have been better to keep it as it originally was, I think, with the emphasis on the work of the uniformed coppers. Tony and Reg sorting everything out with a cup of tea, Bob Cryer to keep the peace in the station – those were the days. I liked Smithy too, in later years. But it couldn't stay like that I suppose.
I didn't know the first and last episodes were on yesterday. It would be interesting to see how they've aged in those years! I didn't remember the final episode but have had a look on YouTube – fairly similar to the final episode of ER, saying farewell to lots of characters and a reminder that the work goes on even though we're no longer able to see it. I remember the final episode of Z Cars very well, when they brought the metal shutters down on the station with the main cast standing behind.

I'd stopped watching by the final, but saw the episode yesterday and they'd made it look like every other police show, focusing more on the detective side of the show and the lighting reminded me of US shows like NCIS and CSI. Instead of trying to copy other shows they should have gone the other way to its early years and focus on a good story well told.

ARGGGGGGHHHH!!!! Damn Drama to hell! They did a whole lot of publicity that they were showing The Bill front the beginning, well apparently that means, Series 1-4 and then jumping to over half way through series 14! Theyve said that they've had pressure to show the later episodes, which is complete BS. So they show The Bill from around series 14 to the end and then go back to series 14 and to the end and when they say they're going to the beginning people are over joyed because they're finally showing episodes that haven't been shown for years and unlike the episodes they've already shown about 2 or 3 times these earky episodes are rarer and so more intersting to watch.
Beyond annoyed, I was so looking forward to series 7 & 8. :-(
