Take two sets of old bedside drawers and then turn them into this (chalk paint and rice paper decoupaged onto front of drawers)

Ooh that's lovely.
I fancy giving chalk paint a go and I also have a horrid old chest of drawers that would benefit from some decoupage.

Great!
Did you paint the rice paper? I have a few packets as they have a shelf life and I can't sell them now, perhaps I can paint them!

Ooh that's lovely. I fancy giving chalk paint a go and I also have a horrid old chest of drawers that would benefit from some decoupage. Give it a whirl, decoupage is fun. Mod podge is what I used as it acts as a sealer too, but the matt version I think is better, the gloss version can leave it just a bit tacky. Also chalk paint, it can be quite gloopy, so a tip is dampen the brush and a little goes a long long way (I used a roller for quickness, and added a splash of water to the actual paint, gave a light sand between coats using a spongy sandpaper) and then waxed on top. Thank you hornedviper for the compliment. Lara, the rice paper came like that, but you can but try it, what is there to lose?

Do you need to prepare the surface for painting with the chalk paint? Does it need an undercoat?

Do you need to prepare the surface for painting with the chalk paint? Does it need an undercoat? No but if a shiny surface I would give it a slight sand. To finish you can get a finishing coat or just use wax, I use wax. You can actually get a lazy range of chalk paint now which is paint and wax together. I haven't tried it. The drawer fronts were actually given at least 5 coats of mod podge to seal in the patterned rice paper. I have done other bits of furniture too, which were in need of a revamp. I really enjoy doing it. I have various projects going on so keeps me very busy.
