For some reason, the other day I recalled the the BBC's 2008 attempt at an acheological adventure series Bonekickers. I remember it with a peculiarly twisted fondness. It was one of the best sitcoms the BBC had produced in years, even if it was supposed to be a drama! Awful scripts, hilariously ludicrous plotlines, massive historical goofs, and much more. IIRC, even the host of the dedicated BBC messageboard couldn't take it seriously. Not for nothing did it quickly become renamed Bonkers.
How we laughed!

I remember that! The thread was the best thing about it! And it was used for years after as the benchmark for bad TV. People would say 'it's not good but it's not as bad as Bonekickers...'

I actually thought some of the basic ideas for the episodes were quite good, but the scripts were a real let down. A lot of people were surprised it was such a dud, as the writers Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah had previously created the highly regarded Life on Mars.
Only a couple of days ago I watched the movie Free State of Jones, in which Gugu Mbatha-Raw (the girl Viv in Bonekickers) has a major part playing opposite Matthew McConaughey. Bonkers didn't do any lasting harm to her career - she's now an MBE, awarded in the Queen's Birthday Honours List this summer for services to drama.

I'm disappointed! When I saw this thread I thought a channel like Drama was repeating it. I only watched a tiny bit of one and gave up. Having later seen some of the comments it must have been hilarious so I wish I watched it now. For free of course, I wouldn't want to buy it!!!!

I loved going into the BBC thread the day after an episode had aired to see what new comments there'd be about it (I was mostly a lurker).
Wow, was it really broadcast as far back as that?!

I watched all of it but the funny thing was when the last episode finished my ex turned to me
Him: Thank god, that's finished. Don't know why you liked it.
Me: Eh? I didn't want to watch it. I thought it was you!
Cue the two of us cracking up!

I used to watch it whilst doing the ironing. It made a tedious job easier. There was something dreadfully fascinating about it. I wish someone would repeat it. I'm sure we could all do with a good laugh!

Oh yeah... I remember the dedicated board! Gosh, those were the days! The BBC actually creating boards instead of destroying them.

I think I only, lasted for one and a half episodes. Drawn in by the strong cast I thought, "this should be good", how wrong I was! It was also before I discovered the BBC message boards, but I have had fun since then reading the comments. Shame, it was a waste of a good cast.

I remember setting the series record link for this.
The morning after the first episode, I went onto the POV thread for Bonekickers, to see what everyone thought.
I deleted the link, and the first episode, but took great joy in reading the thread every week.
Had some of the best laughs I've ever seen on POV.
