Nordic Murders.
The bison WERE back. Excellent screen time in last Friday’s episode, and they were nice and loud too. Hurrah!

Yes! More bison in this episode I think than in the whole of the last series.
There's quite a turnover in detectives there. Ellen was brought in to replace Karin's daughter, and now she's been replaced too - although perhaps that's only temporary while she's on maternity leave. Also I wonder if the prosecutor can really continue in his post now. Perhaps Karin will get her old job back! (probably though, having done time for murder, she would be disbarred).

In Germany even years ago it was standard to have a year off as maternity leave, on quite reasonable terms I believe, so it would be surprising if she came back. Which no doubt means she will, 😂😂. I am not a fan of the prosecutor. I was shocked when he was asking Ellen, quite snottily but then he is an arch conservative isn’t he, about her future intentions re work. That’s illegal here isn’t it, so surely must be in Germany? Perhaps it varies by state and Usedom is behind the times.

I think it's different in every EU country, it's up to each place, the only legal requirement is that women get maternity leave.

Rig 45 Murder at Sea.
Anyone else watching this? Apart from the setting on an oil rig, it’s a bit Agatha Christie isn’t it? I’m very surprised our heroine was killed off in episode 2!

Nordic Murders So Ellen has a family connection to Karin - like apparently half the population of Usedom! We've caught up with Germany now, so no more here until probably well into next year. Two more episodes are being made but they won't be shown in Germany until the 4th. quarter of 2022: www-anderswohin-de.translate.goog/der-usedom-krimi-gute-nachrichten-und-schneewittchen/?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=scRig 45 Murder at Sea I'm watching, and also surprised that who I assumed to be the central character has been killed off. At least the deaths are reducing the number of suspects, so it should be getting easier to guess the perp! I think it's something to do with the man killed in the historical accident (or presumed killed, since I don't think his body was recovered). Four Strangers (All4, ep.1 only on C4 17/7/22) I'm going to give this a miss. Put right off by the RT describing it as "incredibly violent".

Rig 45, Murder at Sea.
So many people seem to be getting bumped off I have lost track of who was on this rig in the first place! I do wish that someone would soon bump off Douglas because he is such a ghastly character. I hate every scene he is in. I thought it must be the good looking guy who was doing all this, but someone hit him last week. The well known actor playing the pilot hasn’t really done very much up to now, so I don’t really see why he would take this role unless he is the killer. Has there been any clue as to why these people are all being targeted? If it is revenge, why kill the detective? She was new to the place so couldn’t have done anything wrong.

The Bain Family Murders.
From NZ, a series based on that country’s most famous murders, apparently but I had never heard of them and did a quick Google to find out as I found the start a bit confusing. This reminded me of the Jeremy Bamber case, but it isn’t a patch on the series with Freddie Fox as JB. It is interesting though with a toxic family background, not to mention a seriously weird dynamic between the parents and the sole survivor, eldest son and apparent Incel David.
There is a very lengthy story here but I don’t think this series goes much beyond the murders and initial (allegedly botched) police investigations, with presumably heavily fictionalised back stories. I know who my money’s on as the killer!

Rig 45: Failed to guess the perp, whose death I thought we'd witnessed some episodes earlier! It was explained however how that person avoided death and why we (and crew members remaining alive at the time) would believe otherwise.
Bain Family Murders: I hadn't heard of the real life murders either (in common probably with most people outside NZ). As portrayed, that is one weird family - especially the mother. I gather the series is mainly concerned with the lives of the family members, and stops after the initial police investigation which we keep getting flash-forwards to. So none of the years of legal to-ing & fro-ing which followed, and if the series does offer a suggestion of whodunnit it will be conjecture, since the case is officially unsolved. The series is on imdb under the original title 'Black Hands', where most user ratings are either 1/10 (utterly boring) or 10/10 (brilliant insight)! - so far I'm inclined to the former.

Rig 45.
I didn’t guess it either and was very annoyed when the armed police killed the innocent guy! It all went on a bit too long for me, and too much ghastly Douglas.
Bain Family.
I assume there will be a fair few screens of what happened next at the end of this. I read that a famous rugby player spent tons of money trying to get the original verdict reversed but doubt we will see any of that. Again, this is quite drawn out. I have definitely taken against David.

Agatha Christie’s Hjerson.
Well this seems an oddity. This series starts next Friday and stars the detective created by Ariadne Oliver, the author and friend of Poirot. Quite why they couldn’t just create a show about a detective with his characteristics (whatever they are) set in modern day Sweden defeats me but the Agatha Christie name in the title seems a tenuous link at best. But it is allegedly quirky, funny and clever so here’s hoping.

Is it Finnish?

It’s a Swedish series. However, I have just googled the place RT calls his home town and it is Aland, which is an autonomous, demilitarised area of Finland, the smallest region, made up of 6700 islands with the 3000 population living on 60. The official language is Swedish and only 5% speak Finnish. Apparently nearly everyone speaks English though. That sounds an interesting setting, a bit like Usedom in Nordic Murders.

Ah. I did wonder if the main character would be a fish out of water. In the books, Mrs Oliver complains bitterly about him and his quirky habits.
I've always assumed he lives and works in England, like Poirot.

Agatha Christie's Hjerson
It's certainly quirky, sometimes amusing - and a bit too clever for me, as each case so far has had me confused. Quite watchable though.
Red Light (Belgian drama)
Just the first episode is on C4 Sunday 9 Oct 11.00pm, and whole series on All4 a couple of days before that.
I've seen this and thought it was pretty good. Following a murder and a disappearance, three women with very different occupations (brothel operator, opera singer, detective) find their paths crossing.
