Hjerson.
I have really been enjoying this. But why on earth they had to have that tenuous link to Agatha Christie is beyond me. I doubt many people could actually tell you anything about him from Christie. They could have developed him from scratch as a quirky detective, it’s not as if it hasn’t been done before, vide Professor T.

Yes, I loved Hjerson. Not an expert on Agatha Christie, so had no knowledge of the 'book within the book' apart from the reference to it in the Radio Times when it was first broadcast

Christie used him to express how much she grew to dislike writing Poirot. Ariadne Oliver is Christie. So basically Hjerson is Poirot but Finnish.
So if they gave him a different character then it's just the Christie Estate milking her name as usual.

I think very, very few people who read Christie would even know who Hjerson is though. Fewer would care. So it makes no sense to me to say it’s an Agatha Christie series. Now if he were called Captain Hastings I could understand making the link.

Astrid: Murder in Paris (More4 Fridays)
I was in two minds whether to bother with this, but I'm glad I did because I'm really enjoying it. Astrid is very autistic and makes Saga in 'The Bridge' look quite ordinary. The relationship between her and detective Raphaelle is nicely drawn I think, with Raphaelle sometimes having to talk Astrid down from being overwhelmed when out of her comfort zone, and at other times losing her temper with Astrid and then having to apologise to her. Great performance from Sara Mortensen as Astrid.
The original French title is 'Astrid et Raphaëlle', of which there have been 3 series so far, so there's plenty of episodes that More4 could be showing.

I watched the first one, still to catch up on the latest. I too enjoyed it, and was quite surprised because I thought I would find Astrid very hard to like. But it was surprisingly good and I agree that the actress, well both of them really, does a grand job.

Ice Cold Murders: Rocco Schiavone.
I thought I posted about this but apparently not. Two series were shown on More 4 but the third series of four two-parters is now on All4. I think the fourth series is as well but that seems to be only one story so not sure what’s happening there.
I watched the first three and they continue in much the same vein as the previous lot. I enjoy it but it might be a bit dismal for some because he is a very grumpy character.

Ice Cold Murders: Rocco Schiavone
Not one for me I'm afraid. Didn't like Rocco himself or series 1 much, and didn't continue.
Seaside Hotel (Denmark)
I know I keep banging on about this delightful and generally light-hearted period drama, but it is one of my all-time favourite series. WP has S1-4 now, still years behind other countries. S9 was shown a year ago in Denmark and is just starting on PBS in the US.
Partisan (Sweden)
S2 is available. I quite liked S1, not so much S2. If S1 was a bit ambiguous about just how chillingly vile was the cult on which it centres, S2 leaves you in no doubt. Plus the most likeable character in S1 isn't in S2.
Arctic Circle (Finland)
I got quite into this, though it gets pretty unpleasant in places. There is a second series, not on WP yet.
Walter's personal top 5
This was in the Radio Times a few months ago, and from memory it went:
1. Deutschland 83 (Germany) 2. Seaside Hotel (Denmark) 3. Thou Shalt Not Kill (Italy) 4. Gold Diggers (Russia) 5. The Adulterer (Netherlands)
I approve of his first 3, though not necessarily in those positions. Gold Diggers I considered carefully and decided to avoid. I watched only episode 1 of The Adulterer before bailing out.

I’ve only seen No 3 on Walter’s list but did really like it. I hated Deutschland 83 and didn’t bother with the subsequent seasons. Why hasn’t he included Nordic Murders? Best supporting actors, the bison 😂.

The Wall: Cover Your Tracks
Canadian French-language crime drama. Starts tonight on More4 with 2 episodes at 9.00pm & 10.00pm, after which I gather the whole series will be on All4.
I'll give it a go, but not on Fridays due to clashes. I don't know why More4 have given it such a long title. Imdb just calls it The Wall, and the original title is La Faille (The Fault).

The Wall.
I watched this last night and, despite the subject matter, really enjoyed it. It was very bleak but well played I thought. I didn’t understand the title at all so had to Google it and The Wall is part of the town of Fermont, of particular architectural significance and specifically relevant to the climate. So I suppose it would be perfectly clear to the Canadian audience. I felt really cold watching it as they said it was between -50C and -60C. 😱.

Is anyone watching The Wall on Mire 4, Friday at 9.00. Episode 4 didn’t record last night and I can’t find it on All4. Was it replaced.? I wonder if they’ve scrapped the series ☹️.

Must have been my recorder as it’s on All4 now, 👍.

Not your recorder, because my (freesat) recording, which relies on the programme start signal, also failed for "unknown reason" - whereas my backup (freeview) recording, which is purely timer based, recorded it OK.. I blame Channel 4 for failing to deliver us the prog. start signal.

Thanks GMan. Coincidentally then, my Humax has been playing up but I googled and it said try changing the HDMI cable so I did and it seems somewhat better. It works OK when it is on and has recorded successfully, but it doesn’t like being switched on sometimes (green screen of death!😱).
