I saw 'The Life I Lead' in Birmingham last night and it's a beautiful and tragic story. It's already been touring before getting to Birmingham and one has 3 towns/cities left, although it is at London for almost 2weeks. Its a one man show about the life and career of the actor David Tomlinson played by Miles Jupp. He plays him very well and the audience really responded to him, there are a couple of serious moments which really stand out and shows Jupp can do the serious aswell as the comedy. www.britishtheatreguide.info/reviews/the-life-i-lead-exeter-northcot-17107

That sounds like a lovely show, prof. Am I confusing two actors, or wasn't he the chap who discovered his father's adultery because his brother looked out of a bus window and saw him in another woman's bedroom!?
I think I have another three shows before the end of the month (I overbooked!) so I won't be able to make it but what's more I had never heard of the Park Theatre before so that was also interesting to look up online.

That's the one Marion. David Tomlinson, Mr Banks in Mary Poppins. They mention that story in the show, of his brother spotting their father through the window. His father had a whole other family that he was with during the week and spent weekends with them. The other family knew about them though. And later he said he found a letter from his father to his mother that he'd written during the war stating that coming home to her was what was keeping him going. However he noticed that the letter was titled to the other woman but the envelope addressed to his mother. He must have mixed the envelopes up so it turns out his mother knew all along. And there's the story of his first wife and her two children. They'd been married about 4yrs and while he was in London she took herself and the kids to a New York high rise apartment building and walked out the window. And he crashed a bi-plane later in life, but didn't have a scratch on him.
A fascinating life. I'd like to read his autobiography now.

Ohh, that's good, I think it deserves it. Metro have it 3/5 a couple of days ago, they said it was about 30mins too long, which I dont agree with, if they cut 30mins off it it would be only been 1hr and there quite a bit to cram in. Fingers crossed for Richmond.
