I went to see this yesterday afternoon at Wimbledon and it was jam-packed. And I have never heard applause like it at the end. So it's a success! It wasn't entirely what I expected. This supposedly came out a half hour set out together for an Elton John party and I gather it involved that Jason Gilkerson (?) chap who now does SCD. Well you do get episodes of fast and furious dancing. But they are interspersed with bits rather like An Evening with Kevin Clifton (I started to dance at the age of four... My parents had a dance academy).
But the crowd adored Kevin (who lives locally, or did recently ) and there was also much love for Johannes and Graziano Letmegetmypecsout. That boy does love a lunge and an appel! I went mainly to see if Graziano is as good as the others (and actually I think he can be a bit lazy in the standard footwork but gives his all in the big pose!) And check out Johannes (really good, deserves a.partner but maybe they think he is too shy and quiet for the nondancing stuff. Wimbledon loved him!)
The dancing was really fast and impressive. The crowd went wild. There was definite frisson from parts of the audience when Graziano got the pecs out. Some of the moves rivalled the Chippendales! It was all going on!
Their are two halves of 60minutes and a 20minute interval. I was expecting perhaps a blistering 90 minute straight through job with no commentary by Kevin. But Kevin can handle an audience and a great time was had by all. Oh yes and Kevin also gave us his Robbie Williams. I was surprised by that but then he is touring in Rock of Ages soon.
