Saturday (25th) at 9pm.
The story of the Queen's second child is often overlooked. Drawing on interviews and archive footage, also mentioned the attempted kidnap and her participation in the 1976 Olympics.
I like the Princess Royal. Her no nonsense approach to life, not suffering fools gladly, and she certainly wouldn't dream of leaving the UK. Looking forward to this.

I'm a fan of her too. I don't usually watch things about the Royals, but I'll record this.

I find the title of the program very strange. Whoever came up with it seems to think that the Monarchy is a meritocracy! Merit has never had anything to do with it - if it did then we would be a republic.

It makes no sense to me either. It would only be relevant if she were older than Charles but overlooked in the order of succession. However I shall still watch the programme. I hope they show her when she was young and ravey!

That was interesting. She certainly takes after her daddy. Not afraid to speak her mind. She seems to smile more these days. Like what she told her (almost) kidnapper. Next week it's all about Prince Charles. In two minds about watching it.

It was a good programme. We seem to have had endless stuff about P. Diana, and some of the others, but Princess Anne has hardly been mentioned for years.
Knew she was regarded as the "hardest working Royal" but over 500 appearances is going some, in one year. She seemed to me, in the past, to have always been trying to take some of the pressure off her parents' hard schedules. She does appear to be more like her father in lots of ways, plus her mothers devotion to Duty before anything else. I remember her as quite a glamour puss in her younger days, apparently she did like lots of boyfriends etc. but she has never been a clothes horse in the way Diana was regarded.
Her wedding dress was the one I have always liked best, of all the Royal Weddings. So simple, and set off her figure beautifully. She looked regal, relaxed, and beautiful in it. Her daughter seems to take after her in many ways, including the love of horses. The children seem to be happy in a way which I expect Anne had hoped, without any titles to hamper their lives: they just get on with things and have relatively ordinary lives.
EDIT: In a way which is the exact opposite of Andrew's children, who although not spoilt, are nevertheless his idea of being important, which will not do them any good in the long run. Hope their marriages last!

I met Princess Anne several years ago and she was totally clued up in her role as President of the particular charity. She is tiny and slim. We were all impressed about the detail in which she knew the subject. That goes to diligence and dedication. Some of our own companies governors are less aware.
She was able to speak to people from all levels of society and there wasn't a comment or question that fazed her. Where an unusual or controversial comment was expressed she was ace at redirecting.

I watched this and rather enjoyed it. It was nice not to see the same old clips repeated as happens when we get another doc on Diana and sons.
