Just watched an episode of this. I know some people think it is all set up however today something happened that I have never seen before. Paul Laidlaw bought what he believed was an early miniature camera, happily paying £60. He said if he was right, it could be rare. Looking at the small rectangular box, there was no clue to what was inside, small bottles, a little frame and a metal contraption, that looked like no camera I have ever seen, all neatly fitted in.
The final sale was in a General Auction, where items could make anything from £50 to £500, according to the auctioneer. For the camera, there were 5 phone lines , bidders on the internet, on the book and in the room. In no time, the bid were increasing by the £1000 and, in the end, the camera sole for £20,000! Paul was almost speechless. Children in Need got a hefty amount from this particular r0ad trip, even after auction costs were deducted!
