Wednesday (31st) at 9 pm (1/4)
The author and broadcaster visits the places that inspired some of Britain's most famous storytellers. Starting with Jane Austen. I don't know what the reason is for putting the presenters names on the titles lately, but it's getting to annoy me. Will be watching, as I'm a fan of Mr. Brandreth.

I see it's not on next week. Why do C5 start a series then not continue with it?

C5 are devils for this. They also started a new Ben Fogle series this week which is not on next week. This time it seems to be because they're showing "Intruder" on consecutive nights Monday to Thursday. Perhaps those new series will continue after Easter week.

Hope so. Enjoyed last night. Jane loved 'skinny dipping' in the sea, apparently. Of course this was before bathing suits had been invented. A very informative programme.

I just watched this and found it quite enjoyable. GB is an amiable host.

I enjoyed it too. I have not been a fan of Gyles, whom I have found rather sleazy in the past. But he has turned up trumps in recent years, with this, and the revamped Great Canal Journeys with Sheila Hancock, and particularly Just a Minute where he excels both as panellist and now as guest host. Perhaps being distanced from his days as an MP is good for him!
I do wonder though what more there is to say about Jane Austen, or Dickens who is coming up. There are loads of interesting authors they could talk about. How about Elizabeth Gaskell, a contemporary and friend of Charlotte Bronte, and whose editor Dickens was (can you imagine that?!)? She had a very interesting life, and wrote some of the most socially aware novels of the Victorian period. Or, going much further back, Chaucer, who was related by marriage to John of Gaunt? We hear very little about his life.
