Friday (9th) at 8 pm. (1/4)
The singer explores his own heritage (his mother is Welsh), while discovering more about the history of Wales. He even interviews a survivor of the Aberfan disaster. Aberfan is not too far from Merthyr Tydfil, where I was born.

From meeting a survivor of the Aberfan disaster, to cockle picking, to whizzing about in a speed boat in Cardiff bay, Michael experienced it all. Seeing him in Mountain Ash (where his mother was born), took me back to my own childhood in Merthyr. Narrow streets of terraced houses. He even visited Cyfartha Castle in Merthyr to sing with the Treorchy Male Voice Choir. It's not a castle, but a grand house built by the Crawshay family, 19th century Iron Masters of Merthyr. It's now a museum. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Well that was nice. He’s a very amiable cove, Michael Ball, isn’t he? It reminded me in tone of the series Adrian Dunbar did round Northern Ireland, not just doing a job but loving it. I did think he sounded more like Michael Sheen at times, 😄😄. I look forward to the rest of the series. And well done to the camera operator, beautiful work.

I enjoyed it too. Michael Ball is one of my favourite people and I love Wales so what's not to like? I had to smile at how he seemed to automatically drop into a Welsh accent when he was speaking to Welsh people. I grew up in a different part of the country to where I was born and spent my first few years. I have a hybrid sort of accent combining the two places but the moment I start talking to my relatives I slip right back to my original one without even being conscious that I'm doing it. My husband found it very funny.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Michael makes an excellent presenter, taking a great joy in everything he had to do. Loved the musical endings too. Good for him in pronouncing the Welsh names correctly. (Coaching from his mother, me thinks).
