I'm not normally a great fan of the "hand-held camera, improvised dialogue" type of drama but I have to say this was a tour de force of acting from Suranne Jones. Her performance as a woman at absolute breaking point from always trying to be perfect was stunning but agonising to watch.

Felt it set off well but fizzled out. Needed a bit more to hang it all together.

I thought Suranne's performance was superb, and it had a satisfactory conclusion in that she finally accepted she needed help, thanks mainly to her husband's persistence. There must be many in her situation for whom the outcome is not so good.
I'll watch the other two episodes, and also the first series from 2 years ago - starring respectively Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton and Gemma Chan - which passed by completely under my radar at the time but is available on All4.

Dear God that was exhausting to watch! I now have a bit of a headache it was so fraught. I liked that they ended it on that quiet note too. Very well played I thought.

I’ve just watched the second one, I am Danielle. I thought it was dreadful! The dialogue just didn’t flow, so not helped at all by improvisation I’m afraid. The acting was pretty chronic and the lead couple… well all they ever talked about was their feelings, their relationship, their feelings, their relationship. Nothing or no one external featured at all. God they were so boring. if I had a date with either of them I think I would make an excuse and leave. There was a plot development towards the end but I was past caring by then.

I've watched all of S2 now and I thought 'I am Danielle' was the weakest and pretty unconvincing. It takes really good actors to pull off these small cast, much improvised, episodes and unfortunately 'Danielle' didn't benefit from that. Next week's, 'I am Maria' starring Lesley Manville', is much better imo.
I'm also working through S1 which I thought I'd missed originally, but it turns out I have seen 'I am Kirsty' (Samantha Morton) - must have watched without realising it was part of a trilogy.

I completely forgot it this week and having read the comments about Ep.2 here I'm not bothered either!
