It always was experimental. The tracking shot of Carol as she was heading for the exit was really unusual at the time and that was in the pilot. We are so used to that now we barely notice anymore but it had a massive effect at the time. It really drops the viewer into the action. I remember a few times when I started watching it when the camera would do a quick spin and there would be an ambulance trolley heading straight for it and I would start to jump out of the way on impulse!

I think yesterday's episode must have been the second half of a long pilot episode as, according to IMDB, episode 1 deals with the aftermath of Carol's suicide attempt. Just checked the timing and the pilot was 90 mins. That might account for the large number of ad breaks, so hopefully there will be fewer once we get to the first hour-long episode of the series proper.
A poignant moment when Morgenstern told Greene to 'set the tone'. That's what Greene said to Carter many years later when he was forced by illness to leave. That's what this show does so well, human without being mawkish.

Yeah, I think you're right. I must have counted the pilot as the first episode and watched it in one go.

Had to do my community duty last week so missed several eps of ER (and Medium) so had a wonderful catchup last night! Spent Sunday evening watching one episode after another.
It is our family programme. My youngest is living away and is also watching it but sadly not at the same time as us. Different time zone! We have binge-watched it twice through now - all 300 odd episodes. Lovely!!

Even though we watched every one this week we will have it on tonight as they run through them all again.
Unless, of course there is something better on . . . but I doubt it.
The scene with Carter and the "Sheman" - brilliant.

It's great, isn't it? Yesterday's episode 'Blizzard' was particularly apt. Assuming snow actually is like that in Chicago, we don't know we're born!

It is like that! I used to have a boss who was from Chicago and she used to talk about the winters there. One day her eyelashes kept freezing together when she blinked. Another day she couldn't get into her apartment block as the doors had frozen solid.

Just loved Carter tonight, standing up to Benton and then doing the tube procedure perfectly. He is really the most stand out character for me. I can't wait until they reveal who he is. My daughter reminded me tonight about Chloe's baby. Won't say because don't want to spoil future eps.
Loving it . . .

Was she there today? I didn't spot her. She's known as Deb initially, isn't she, only using her own name Jing Mei later on.

So... you didn't see the scene where she got her finger stuck? Or the one where she zapped Carter with the fribulator.

Right, so the reason I didn't see Deb do those things is that she didn't do them until today's episode. I'm recording this in the afternoons. Are you watching at a different time?

Problem solved. Too much on in the evenings for my PVR to cope with.
