ITVX has all the series of Cadfael currently. I'm diving in.

It's still good. Even the film type holds up. Although they must have used the same field heading in to the woods hundreds of time, I didn't notice previously.

Is it definitely ITVX? I looked yesterday and couldn't find it. I was very tired though

Yes, I had to go through the search and then add the series.

Found it! I'm watching the second episode and there's 3 young actors who have gone on to be huge stars - Sean Pertwee, Toby Jones and Hugh Bonneville. And loads of other familiar faces. It's a bit like Vera - every British actor alive at the time was in it!
I remember now why I've had a crush on Sean Pertwee for years....

It's good for that isn't it. You hear a voice coming from a wimple and think well she was in whatever. These TV series create so much work for actors of all ages, it's one of the great reasons for British TV dramas. It was a pretty big cast too. I remember having a crush on Hugh Berengar! My mum liked the Abbot, I remember her telling her friend she'd make him lose his vows - they were tipsy in the kitchen at the time.

Hang on a cotton-picking minute! Where's Sean Pertwee? Who's that bland looking hunk of wood?

You've got me watching to see how many young actors were in it limping about in rags who then became police officers in something else. Ha ha!

Series like this with loads of parts for new and old actors must be a dream for agents. Nowadays the cast is usually much smaller and the scope narrower. Like Downton etc. hardly any new characters and just the same people toddling about together in the same place. Whereas something like this has up to 5-10 new people each episode. Even Death in Paradise has at most 5 new people each episode but because of the location they are nearly always actors who are established. I say location because they get 3-6 weeks out there filming and it can't be that hard to be killed in the first scene and only reappear in flash backs once or twice.
